The legend
The ruins of the old chapel in the pond.
According to the legend ,during the Byzantine period, there was a chapel where is now the pond.

The chapel was dedicated to Saint Barbara.
When the Turks occupied the city in 1830, they destroyed the chapel and wanted to build a mosque in its place.
However, the people prayed a lot and on the Day of the celebration of Saint Barbara, a miracle happened! There was a flood and the mosque was never built.
Since then, Saint Barbara became the patron Saint of Drama and and built a church opposite the lake .
