The Edge of Night

With this collection of images I wanted to explore several concepts. First, I want to expand my horizons as a photographer by working only at night to push myself technically and creatively. Then I wanted to explore the social side of what it means to stretch our power grid into rural areas, places normally filled with natural beauty. The results were surprising and beautiful.

There is something to be said about being alone in the night. The con-stant hum of the substation as your only conversation. Using bitter cold fin-gers to adjust knobs under the light of a phone screen. Holding your breath for thirty seconds as the shutter stays open to absorb the little light the moon has to offer and waiting for the results. Being far out from any house, but only feet from the structure that lights it. Having the clash of the beautiful night sky with harsh industrial lines. I enjoyed creating these photographs. Through them I learned a lot about photography, life, and myself.

The sky grew darker, painted blue on blue, one stroke at a time, into deeper and deeper shades of night.
