THE LEGEND OF SAINT GEORGE AND THE DRAGON
Once upon a time, in a far away place, there was a village. Near
the village, a fierce dragon lived in a cave. The dragon was green
and purple. It could walk, run and swim. It could also fly and
breathe fire.
The villagers decided to give the dragon two sheep every day so
that it wouldn`t attack the village . When there no more sheep,
they gave it cows and horses and other animals.
The dragon killed and devoured everything in its path: sheeps,
cows, horses, pigs, goats and chickens. It also killed men and
women, destroying their houses with fire.
The day arrived when there were no more animals. So, the
villagers agreed that each day they would give the dragon a
person to eat. That way, the dragon wouldn’t kill everyone.
One day, it was the king’s daughter’s turn. The king didn’t have
any other daughters. He didn’t want to give her to dragon, but
the villagers told him to do the same as everyone else in the
village. If not, the dragon would attack the village; it would kill
and eat everyone.
So the king took the princess to the dragon. But… when the
dragon opened the mouth to eat the princess, Saint George
appeared on a white horse. He killed the dragon with a lance.
The blood of the dragon turned into red roses. Saint George
gave one rose to the princess as sign of love.
The villagers were are happy. They cried, ”Long live Saint
George!.”
They lived happly and safely ever after.
