As we look forward to the next 150 Years.
Are your glasses charged in the West and South, the Worshipful Master cries;
They're charged in the West, they're charged in the South, are the Wardens'
prompt replies;
Then to our final toast tonight your glasses fairly drain.
"Happy to meet—Sorry to part—Happy to meet again again.
Oh! happy to meet again!"

HISTORY
The Lord Warden Lodge was officially designated The Lord Warden Lodge, No 1096 on 28th February 1866 when a warrant was issued from the United Grand Lodge of England, signed by command of the Grand Master, Thomas Dundas, the Earl of Zetland KG. The consecration ceremony took place on Saturday 21st April 1866 at the Royal Standard Hotel, Dover Road, Walmer. Therefore derives the story of this lodge as being a Walmer lodge, thus differentiating the Lord Warden Lodge from other Deal lodges. The location of The Royal Standard Hotel is believed to be on the Dover Road just past the junction with Liverpool Road.
The Royal Standard Hotel as it is now.
Formation of Lord Warden Lodge
Our records show that the petition for the formation of the Lord Warden
Lodge was made by the following brethren.
This petition was signed by the WM and Wardens of the Peace and
Harmony Lodge, No 199, Dover and presented to Grand Lodge on the
26th February 1866 with a recommendation from the Provincial Grand
Master of Kent, William Archer, Viscount Holmesdale (later to become
the 3rd Earl Amherst). Two days later a warrant was issued and The
Lord Warden Lodge No 1096 was officially designated.

FOUNDER MEMBERS
The founder members of the Lodge were installed, appointed and in-
vested as follows:
After the consecration (21 April 1866), 14 brethren were elected as
joining members.
Worshipful Master Robert Douglas
Immediate Past Master Timothy Morris
Senior Warden Thomas Marrable
Junior Warden Josiah Robinson
Treasurer Carl Liebermann
Secretary George Lennock
Senior Deacon William Barlow
Junior Deacon Richard Moss
Inner Guard George Northover
Director of Ceremonies Thomas James Usher
Stewards Edward Hammond; John Smith;
Richard Cockings and John Dooley
Two initiations followed:
John Branville Harrison, age 40, Vicar of Walmer was passed on 15 March 1867; and James Hinton, age 36, Surgeon, residing at The Barracks, Walmer, who sadly left on active service in 1867 before any further advancement.
Interestingly, all had paid their quarterage to benevolence of 2/- (10p)
and 2/6 (12.5p) for registration fee and certificate as founders and join-
ing members. In the case of the initiates, the sum for registration and
certificates was 17/- (85p).
EARLY MEETINGS
In the early days of the Lodge, most of the Lodge Meetings were
held in public houses, particularly more so if the landlord himself
became a member of the Lodge. Lodge records show that a total of
56 Publicans (or Licensed Victuallers as they were called) became
members. After the consecration ceremony, Lodge meetings were
held on the first and third Fridays of every month at The Royal
Standard Hotel, North Barrack Road, Walmer. The very next year,
the venue changed and continued to change as below:
1866 The Royal Standard Hotel, Dover Road, Walmer 1867 The Lord Warden Inn, North Barrack Road, Walmer 1870 The Leith Estate Office, The Strand, Walmer 1872 The Lord Warden Hotel, North Barrack Road, Walmer 1876 The Public Rooms, Park Street, Deal 1879 The Lord Warden Hotel, North Barrack Road, Walmer 1880 St George’s Hall, Park Street, Deal 1893 The Forrester’s Hall, North Barrack Road, Walmer 1894 St George’s Hall, Park Street, Deal At the turn of the century it became apparent that this situation was
most unsatisfactory and a new purpose built Masonic Hall was pro-
posed for Sondes Road.
In 1910 the Masonic lodge room was built. Foundation stones were
laid on 10th May 1910 and an emergency meeting was held on 27th
September of that year, under the banner of the Wellington Lodge
to open the new building. WBro Wilfred Court, Worshipful Master of
the Wellington Lodge presiding. In 1910, when the Masonic Hall was
opened, it served The Wellington Lodge and The Lord Warden
Lodge; today it also serves The George Hamilton, Globe and Laurel
and The Downs Lodge’s.
