THE JOURNAL
The Small Catechism 500 Years 1517 – 2017 - The reformation breakthrough
Unless I am convinced by the testimony of Scripture or by clear reason; I am bound by the Scriptures I have quoted and my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and will not recant anything since it is neither safe nor right to go against my conscience. I cannot do otherwise. Here I stand, may God help me, Amen. ~ Martin Luther~
God gave us his laws through the 10 Commandments The 10 commandments are Love, commandments 1-3 define our relationship with God. Commandments 4-10 define our relationships with each other.
Jesus taught us the Lord’s Prayer Prayer is how we speak to God. The Lord’s Prayer represents our reverence of God, God’s kingdom comes to us in word and spirit, our continued faith, our prayer for forgiveness and the power to forgive others, protection from temptation, rescue from evil, and knowing that this prayer is pleasing to our father.
Forgiveness has been won for us in Jesus Through Confession, the Office of the Keys and Absolution, when we acknowledge our sins in thought, word and deed to God and to others God wants us to be assured of the forgiveness Jesus has won for us.
The Apostles Creed simplifies our belief in God We confess our belief in God through the work of God the Father as creator and provider, God the Son as redeemer and savior, and God the Holy Spirit as sanctifier and keeper of us in our faith.
God extends his grace and love to us through Holy Baptism Baptism combined with God’s Word, and Christ’s command represents the washing away of sin which we continue every day by drowning our sin through repentance and rise-up forgiven and free. We are united through baptism to Christ’s death and resurrection.
God offers us forgiveness, life and salvation through Holy Communion The Sacrament of the Altar is the true body and blood of Jesus under the bread and the wine instituted by Christ himself. We trust by faith that Jesus truly comes to us and offers us his life-giving body and blood.

Hananiah Lutheran Church Hananiah is our Lutheran mission to the east side of Buffalo under the leadership of Deacon Antwan Diggs. The church, also the site of Buffalo Lutheran Employment, is located at 900 Genesee Street which was the site of a marijuana growing and manufacturing site that was raided by drug enforcement officials several years ago and deeded to the church with the promise that the building would be used to bring hope and help to the community. With the help of grants from LWML, Buffalo Lutheran Church Extension Society and extensive volunteer labor, about one-third of the building is now being used by Hananiah for worship, offices and Christian Education. Please keep the members of Hananiah and their mission in your prayers throughout this month as they seek to be Christ's presence in challenging and sometimes dangerous situations.
