Doctrina Christiana

• printed in the Philippines by Fr. Antonio de Borja, S.J. in 1708• 1712–although a translation–is considered by researchers as the first

novel in Tagalog. (J. Villa Panganiban, et al., 1987)• story traces its origin to a Manichaean tract produced in Central Asia• referred to as the Christianized version of Buddha’s life with Josaphat

reaching enlightenment through he love of Jesus Christ.

This is a socio religious play which is part of the rites held in connection with the death of a person. This ritual done four times.

Another socio religious play also played in the connection with

the death of the person to comfort the bereaved family.

Duplo

• A special occasion for the pilareños of sorsogon during maytime to get together

Lagaylay

• The father of drama, a musical comedy or melodrama three acts which death with men’s passion and emotions like love, hate, revenge, cruelty , avarice or some political problem.

zarzuela

• Philippine Christmas dramatic ritual narrating the whole family’s search for a place to stay in Bethlehem for Jesus Christ ‘s birth through songs.

• Have measures of twelve syllables and slowly sung to the accompaniment of a guitar or banduria.

Balagtasan

A chant in free verse by a bereaved person or his representative besides

the corpse of the dead.

Dung- aw

A form of dramatic entertainment perform on a moonless night during a town fiesta or on darknights after a harvest.

Carillo

A short musical comedy popular during the 18th century. They were

exaggerated comedy shown between acts plays and were mostly performed

by characters from the lower class.

Sainete
