BF-DC Junior High Student of the Month - November
I would like to compliment Mrs. Merkey for the job well done taking her class to the State Capi-
tol. It was a wonderful experience for her students to not only see the capitol but to leave a deco-
rated tree in our school's honor in the rotunda. The class met and took pictures with State Superin-
tendent of Public Instruction, Joy Hoffmeister. They also enjoyed story telling as well as dance and
music presentations.
The day was topped off with the lighting of the Capitol Christmas Tree with Governor Mary Fallin
and a special guest, Darcy Lynne Farmer, winner of America's Got Talent. It took a great deal of
work and planning to have such a successful day-- a day that those students will never forget.
Thanks again to Mrs. Merkey for all of her hard work. Special events like these are important to
the learning experiences of our students and they can't take place without caring teachers making
them happen.

Math and Science Club Holds 3rd Grade Science Day
On Friday, December 1,
the BF-DC Math and Science
Club hosted their semi-
annual 3rd Grade Science
Day. This day was instituted
5 years ago to expose the
3rd grade class to the ex-
citement and wonder of high
school science in hopes of
sparking their interest in
academics and, in particu-
lar, the sciences. It also
allows the high schoolers to
practice research, organiza-
tion, and presentation skills
– and to show off their hard-
earned knowledge about
science.
Forty third graders from
Will Rogers Elementary
came to BF-DC High School
immediately after lunch to
view demonstrations chosen
and performed by students
from the Chemistry and
Physics classes. There were
15 separate performances
demonstrating various sci-
ence concepts such as com-
bustion, chemical reactions,
electricity, fluid pressure,
cryogenics, gravity, and the
Combined Gas Laws. There
was everything from ele-
phant toothpaste to spark-
ing gummi bears to shoot-
ing the monkey!
The afternoon began with
fire and explosions in the
gym parking lot. Then the
third graders were split into
2 groups, with one group
going to the lab for demon-
strations, and the other
group viewing some demon-
strations in the old gym,
along with each student
getting a hovercraft ride.
Halfway through, the two
groups exchanged places so
that everyone was able to
participate in all the fun.
Both the third graders and
the high school students
thoroughly enjoyed the day,
and plans are to host 3rd
Grade Science Days in the
spring!

Movie Review “Elf”
The movie “Elf” is a comical Christmas movie that you
should watch every year. It will make you laugh and put you in
the right mood to survive Christmas.
“Elf” is about a guy who was raised with elves but he is actu-
ally human. His name is Buddy and once he gets old enough
Santa talks to him about how he was never really an elf. Bud-
dy then wants to know what he is so Santa tells him and Bud-
dy wanting to know more sets out on an adventure to New
York City to find his dad who doesn’t even know about Buddy.
Buddy runs into many obstacles but always finds a way to
over come them.
I recommend this movie to anyone who likes comedies but
also wants to watch a Christmas movie. This movie still
cracks me up no matter how many times I have watched it. I
would give this movie 5 out of 5 stars because it never gets
old.
