Pastor’s Column Fr. Thomas Keller
Changes to Senior Ministry
We want to thank Laura Benson for her work at Assumption. She has done a great job and will be moving on by the end of December.
Laura has been a very faithful and dedicated employee at Assumption for eight years. Laura helped with getting Assumption’s ACTS Retreat program off the ground. She also served as Adult Faith Formation Director. Most recently, she was the director of our new Senior Ministry.
We will begin searching for a new Director of Senior Ministry in the next few weeks. God bless you, Laura.
Thanksgiving
Last year, we started the Assumption Parish Family Thanksgiving Brunch and it was a huge success!
We are going to gather again to offer God solemn gratitude for the many blessings we have received with a special Thanksgiving Day Mass at 9 a.m.
At the 9 a.m. Mass, everyone is encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to replenish our parish St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Pantry. The food items are presented at the Offertory at the Mass.
At 10 a.m., everyone is invited to join us for a Parish Family Thanksgiving Brunch in the church lower level. The parish will supply the basics: turkey and dressing. Everyone is welcome to bring a side-dish or dessert to share! We had an abundance of leftovers last year, so plan on taking some home!
Recognizing Generosity
As you may have noticed in last week’s contributions report, the parish received a single large and generous gift of $10,000. It was given to the parish anonymously. Please remember our benefactors in your prayers!
End of Year Giving
Many parishioners like to make an “end of year” gift to Assumption. Envelopes will be placed in the pews by the beginning of December. If you wish to make gift, please take the envelope; you are welcome to put it in the collection basket or drop it off at the Parish Office before the end of the year. If you wish to make a donation of stock or other investments, you can communicate that to the Parish Office. Thank you for your generosity!
Inside Catholicism
Inside Catholicism has been a fun experience so far. We meet Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the church lower level. About 40-50 participants have come each week. There are some scheduled topics, but much of the time is dedicated to responding to the questions of the participants.
You can join us any Wednesday and bring your questions about the Catholic Faith!
Upcoming dates: - November 13 - November 20 - December 4
- December 11
God bless, Fr. Keller

Steps toward a Catholic Spirituality:
Week 32
1. Catholic life is centered not on man but on God and we desire a supernatural "life of Grace" which is received through Christ and His Church and leads us to heaven. 2. Devoutly participate in Holy Mass, love and adore Jesus present in the Most Blessed Sacrament. 3. Pray that your will conforms to God's Will; entrust your material and spiritual needs to Christ, the Virgin Mary and to specific saints of your choosing; pray for your family and friends, especially for the souls of the deceased, especially at Holy Mass. 4. Cultivate an attitude of trusting obedience in the teachings of the Church and respect for the clergy as mediators of Christ's presence. 5. Develop a conscience that values service of God and neighbor, respects human life, preserves personal chastity and enriches family life. 6. Accept life's hardships that result from your state in life as sacrifices to be offered to God for your own sanctifica-tion or as an oblation for the good of others and the souls in Purgatory. 7. Distain all sin, fear hell, confess your sins regularly and perform acts of penance (fasting, almsgiving and prayer) for your past sins. 8. Express your faith with others in your parish, or another legitimate Catholic community, within the workplace and with your closest relationships with a special dedication to handing the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Faith to the next generation.
Questions for Reflection:
- Do I take time to reflect on the importance of my Catholic Faith throughout the week?
- Do I take steps to grow in Faith?
- Do I reject attempts by the world to draw me away from God?

Each family will receive a copy of Father Donald Calloway's book, "10 Won-ders of the Rosary." Thanks for being disciples in our community, and for sharing the joy as we celebrate the birth of our Lord!
