The walk in the Old Town in Żory

Żory was founded in 1272r. The plan of the building

development was based on medieval oval line.

We begin the trip with the visit at the defence wall of the St Philip and Jacob church.

A "Penitential Cross" at the old graveyard. The cross was put on the spot of felony by the murderers.

There are also some interesting objects e.g. „Pilgrim”, old bells, unexploded bomb ( that was dug out from the

ground during the repair of the church square)

The following gate was a part the town fortification, it was called Krakowska Gate or Lower Gate. Today, the

reconstructed gate is at the roundabout, but in fact in the past the gate was located a little bit closer to the town.

The „Small Church„- the remains of the first parish church.

Garncarska street with the characteristic building development. You can visit a famous pastry shop here.

The town square with the statue of Saint Jan Nepomucen,

Town hall with two commemorative boards: One devoted to Otto Stern- our Nobel Price winner and the other about

the Fire Holiday which Żory celebrates on 11-th May.

A modern fountain

„Żorek” the symbol of Żory

Walking down the Szeptycki street you will get to the monument of Stanisław Moniuszko- our famous musician
