These are slightly different, yet all the same!

What am I?Hint: A large mass of ice and snow that

moves over land They are so big and heavy that they

press down hard on the land creating u shaped valleys.

I am a glacier!

How are glaciers formed? They are formed when snow falls in the

winter, which collects in layers. The weight of snows upper layers push down on the lower layers, which have turned into ice.

This pressure causes movement.

From this picture what do you think glaciers are made of?

Snow Ice Rock debris (which is picked up as the

glacier moves)› Boulders› rock fragments› Gravel› Sand› soil

Continental glaciersThese are ice sheets which are normally found in Antarctica and Greenland!

Where do you think these are

found?

Where do you think these are found?

cirque glacier : valley glacier:

ice caps:ValleyGlaciers

confined by a valley form in a valley

cover mountain tops.

Some are found in the United States!

How does this affect you? About 55, 000 years ago ice

sheets covered the valley glaciers in the upper White Mountains.

Even on the highest summits in New Hampshire today there are still markings or deposits from the continental ice sheet.

As the glaciers melted it created the beautiful landscape that you see today in NH, such as the Flume and Franconia Notch!
