HEAD COACHTODD WHITTING
With an award-winning background and strong recruiting ties in Houston, the state and across the country, Whitting was the best choice to lead the Cougars into the fu-ture, Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades said.
I associate Todd with the greatest period in Houston baseball history, so obviously it made sense that UH went after him. He did a great job building TCU to what it is today with the constraints that it had being a private school. By putting Todd at UH where he doesnt have those constraints, where he is working at a public school in an urban area with a lot of recruiting possibilities, I believe that Houston can succeed like a Texas or a Cal State Fullerton. Todds work in recruiting over the years speaks for itself. Its an ex-cellent hire for Houston, and its the best hire that they could have made. Kendall Rogers, Rivals.com
Coach Whitting is a great players coach who relates well to all his players. He was the main reason that I came to Houston when he recruited me. He is one of the top recruit-ers in the country and is going to bring outstanding players to UH. 2006 National Player of the Year and current Pittsburgh Pirate pitcher Brad Lincoln

Atier one university
In January 2011, the University of Houston joined the ranks of the top research universities in the nation with the announcement by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching that placed UH in its top category of research universities.
The designation makes the University of Houston one of only three public Carne-
gie-designated Tier One research universities in Texas, along with the University of Texas and Texas A&M.
A Tier One university provides a nationally competitive learning environment for its students. We know that even though our graduates work in the Houston region, they compete in the global marketplace and, therefore, their skill set needs to be globally competitive. A Tier One university provides greater opportunities for stu-dents to work with world-class faculty in nationally ranked programs and engage in cutting-edge research and learning. Consequently, their degrees have a brand that is nationally recognized and globally respected.
