Common misunderstanding• Your transcript is a permanent record. Your grades cannot be

erased or replaced even when a course is repeated.• Having multiple “R” (repeats) on your transcripts would not

impress universities/colleges.

Credit evaluationIs necessary when• You have college credits at another college or universityAND• You are planning to earn an associate degree at NSCC

Process:1. Order official transcripts from each college or university

attended, to be sent directly (electronically if possible) to ARRC. (If you’ve received official transcripts, please do NOT open them)

2. Check w/ ARRC to verify transcripts have arrived.3. Submit the Application for Evaluation of Incoming Credits form

to ARRC.

WHAT ELSE TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT WHEN CREATING YOUR EDUCATIONAL PLAN

Application & Transfer Timing• When to start applying for universities /colleges?• Most of the students start applying for universities/colleges while they

are still working on their associate degree

• Application deadlines• A college/university may have a separate application deadline for

international students - often earlier than domestic students

• Which year & quarter to transfer?• How long it takes to complete your associate degree?• How long it takes to completed your major prerequisites?• Are you applying to a semester system school or a quarter system

school?• Which quarter/semester do the schools/majors of your choice accept

international students? Create your educational plan

When to take TOEFL/IELTS

• TOEFL• http://www.ets.org/

• IELTS• http://www.ielts.org/

• Test dates and locations are limited.• Spaces fill quickly, especially during November and December.

TOEFL recommends “you register 3 to 4 months before your desired test date to reserve your seat. Your test date should be 2 to 3 months before your earliest admissions application deadline.”

Create your educational plan

Your graduating timing matters, because…

Once you complete your degree, you have 3 options:

1) Transfer to a university/college within 60 days upon completion of your degree. • If you graduate in Winter quarter, you must start studying at a

university in Spring quarter of the same year. • Only exception is – if you graduate in Spring quarter, you can start

studying at a university either in Sum or Fall quarter of the same year.

2) OPT (optional practical training) Talk to the IP office

3) Go back to your home countryCreate your

educational plan

BY THE WAY…

This is my last quarter at NSCC. I have not applied to any universities. Can I take extra classes after I complete all my associate degree requirements in order to stay in the US?

No.

I have lots of major pre-requisites. Some of them are offered only once a year. I need to take care of those, even after I complete my associate degree requirements!!

Still, NO. You cannot continue taking classes once you complete your degree requirements.

What if I don’t tell the IP office that I can complete my degree now & apply for graduating for a later quarter?
