About the Moderator

Andrew Schorr, Founder of Patient Power

Andrew Schorr is a pioneer in Internet health and medical

programs who became a patient himself, participating in a

clinical trial and surviving leukemia.  In 1992, Andrew

invented telephone talk shows for patients and later was

among the first to produce live webcasts for patients.  That

was the genesis of HealthTalk.com, co-founded with

Esther. Andrew has been honored by many groups for his

innovation in health communications and his devotion to

helping other patients. He is the founder of Patient Power,

an online patient education resource located at

www.PatientPower.info and with Esther, the co-founder of

the Patient Empowerment Network.

Bonnie Sakallaris, VP for Optimal Healing Environments, Samueli InstituteBonnie Sakallaris, RN, MSN, NEA, BC is Samueli Institute's Vice President for Optimal Healing Environments. Prior to coming to the Institute in April, 2011, Bonnie was the Vice President for Outcomes Management at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.  Her extensive clinical and administrative experience includes expertise in critical care nursing, data analysis and benchmarking and process improvement.

A leader in the field of health care design, Malkin has lectured widely and written numerous articles on the psychological effects of health care environments.
