todirectandmanagetheoverallactivitiesnecessaryfortheyear-longcelebrationin2018.Apublic,nonprofitlocalgovernmentcorporationwasestablishedfortheTricentennial.TheCommissionconsistsof19individualsappointedbytheMayor,CityCouncilandBexarCountyandissupportedbytheTricentennialOrganizingCommittee,composedofindividualsfromthepublicsector,private,non-profitandphilanthropiccommunities.Priortohisappointment,Mr.BenavidesservedasChiefofStafftoCityManagerSherylSculleyforfiveyearsandpreviouslyworkedintheParksandRecreationDepartmentasAssistantDirector.Inhiscapacity,hehadoversightofmaintenanceandoperations,parkprojectsandplanning,treemitigation,volunteerservicesandCitycemeterieswithintheParksdepartment.BeforehisappointmentasAssistantDirector,Mr.BenavidesservedasExecutiveAssistanttotheCityManager,whereheprovidedprofessionalsupporttotheCityManagerforfouryears.HealsosupervisedtheCouncilActionTeam,theCityCouncilAgendaprocessandtheadministrativeactivitiesoftheOfficeofCityCouncil.In2004,Mr.BenavideswasaparticipantintheManagementAssistantprogramwithintheCityManager'sOffice.AsManagementAssistant,hewasresponsibleformonitoringbudgets,performancemeasurements,CityCouncilandcitizeninquiries.PriortocomingtotheCityManager'sOffice,Mr.BenavidesworkedintheDepartmentofCommunityInitiativesasaManagementAnalyst.Mr.BenavideshasbeenemployedwiththeCityofSanAntoniosince2002.
