How Does Accessibility Make a Difference?Technology plays a big role in how we work, communicate, and play. Not everyone has accessibility to computers and the benefits they offer. More and more people, however, are able to access computers due to improvements in:
Affordability - the cost of computers keeps going down Wireless technology – users can connect to their
computers and the Internet without wires Public access - computers are available in many places Education - people can teach each other about

Imagine that you and a partner have invented a brand new technology that will revolutionize the way students deposit funds into their lunch accounts and how they can use those funds in the school cafeteria. Work with a partner to answer the following questions.
Will your technology be integrated? How so? What is the lifespan of your technology? What considerations for responsible use of the
technology will you need to make? Will your invention negatively impact the environment? How will you ensure accessibility for your technology?

Why It Matters
11
Create a Cell Phone Advertisement
Why is it important for me to learn how to work with multiple applications?
While there are software applications that have many capabilities, each application usually has a specific function. However, there are many situations in the real world where you will need to combine these functions and applications to present a body of information. Conducting research and creating presentations are just two of many examples of the need for working with integrated applications.
Whether you are using Microsoft Office applications for work, school, or as a hobby, knowing how to use them together will greatly increase the ease with which you use the applications as well as the level of sophistication of the products you create with them.

Microsoft Office ToolsAfter you learn how to use a tool in one Microsoft Office application, the same tool usually works the same way in other Office applications. This makes it easy to use different programs to create a single project. In this project, you will learn how to use the following tools in Microsoft Word and also be able to use them in other Microsoft Office applications:• Create, size, and format a text box• Use the ruler to modify bullets and margins• Insert and modify clip art• Use Drawing Tools• Add layers to a text box

Why It Matters
33
Why is it important for me to learn about emerging technologies?
Just 50 years ago, scientists and inventors envisioned future technologies like homes that can talk to you and robots that help you with household chores. Many people never thought that these things could be developed, and yet today they are a reality. There are smart homes and robots that vacuum floors.
As more households are becoming two-income families and people are working more and longer hours, these emerging technologies might become a reality in our every day lives.
How can you learn about these technologies and share the information with others?

Create a Presentation: Emerging Technologies
After you brainstorm a research plan that includes keywords you will use to search Google™, you will want to share that information with classmates and others.
Because the information you will find is exciting and new, you will want your presentation to be just as exciting.
The best way to showcase the information and demonstrate through the use of data, video, graphics, and or sound is by creating an integrated presentation in PowerPoint that makes use of features in Excel and Word that will organize your information and keep your audience’s attention.

As with the other portfolio projects, think about what information you would like to present. Get an idea of how you would like your presentation to look. Then conduct your research, and finally, begin creating your presentation.
This project also asks you to use your critical thinking skills to predict the development of small technology. To do so, you will want to make sure you carefully plan and conduct your research and use the tools you have learned about that can help you analyze trends.
