UPPER POTOMAC CHAPTERRecipient of the 2015 MOAA 5 Star Level of Excellence Award
…from the President
Hello Fellow UPC Membersand Spouses,
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer and have had a nice vacation or are planning one. There are a couple things on the radar in the next couple of months. First, don’t forget the annual picnic on 13 August at Bert and Emma’s farm – it is always a great time. Please remember to bring a donation of non-perishable items for the Fort Detrick Chapel food bank. Also, the golf scramble is coming up on September 16th. We are still in need of sponsors for Wounded Warriors who participate at no cost for golf, food and prizes. We still have vacancies for Chapter officers and Board members
for 2017-18. Please consider becoming an officer or Board member and help keep the Chapter a viable one. The Chapter is also looking forward to the release of the Level of Excellence award winners in late July. The Chapter has done very well over the years and we hope to continue our winning ways. In closing, have a great summer and recruit a new member.
Best wishes …Doug

Chapter Officer/Board Elections for 2017-2018
In October, we will elect Chapter officers and board members for the 2017-2018 term. We still need a volunteer to step forward to fill the position of 2nd Vice. A full complement of officers and board members is vital to the sustainment of the Chapter. The responsibilities of officers do not consume a lot of your time, and this is an opportunity to contribute to the well-being of the Chapter. If interested, contact Chip Chipley at 301-668-4154 or chipley2@comcast.net or Doug Reichard at 301-898-5892 or dwreichard@comcast.net

2016 Chapter Golf Tournament
As you know, the Chapter will sponsor its 5th annual golf scramble on Friday, September 16, 2016 at the Glade Valley Golf Club in Walkersville. Tee time is 12:30 PM. The Chapter will support Operation Second Chance, Inc. again this year. We still need a few more volunteers to step up and help on theday of the scramble. No experience necessary. If you are a golfer, sign up your foursome! Lastly, and perhaps most important, we need sponsors for this fund raising event so contact your friends, business acquaintances and local businesses for support.Sponsor opportunities are listed on page 6; a flyer with basic information is contained on page 8. If you need flyers/information brochures/ more information, contact Lou Muniz at 210-439-7578 or popeyemuniz@ yahoo.com for more information.

Food Pantry Service Project
Last August, the Chapter partnered with the post chapel at Ft Detrick to help provide food for active duty, Reserve, and Guard servicemembers in need. The response from our members was overwhelming and we collected a large amount of non-perishable food and monetary donations. The donated food filled the food bank pantry and the monetary donations were used to purchase commissary gift cards to be distributed by the chapel staff. Once again this year we will partner with the Ft. Detrick Chapel to help replenish their food bank. We are asking you to bring a donation of non-perishable food to the picnic. If you wish to make a monetary donation, make checks out to UPC and put “food pantry” in the memo section. The money will be used to purchase gift cards for use at the post commissary. Thank you in advance for your support.
Cell Phones for Soldiers
Don’t forget about our Cell Phones for Soldiers project. You can provide your old phones to Jerry Schumeyer and he will take care of them for you. If you are
attending our picnic bring your old phone and give it to Jerry.
