Target Audience
This Meeting is designed for pathologists, cytopathologists, cytotechnologists, students, and other members of the cytopathology community.
Educational ObjectivesThe American Society of Cytopathology’s 67th Annual Scientific Meeting will:
• Integrate recent advances in Cytopathology with current practice
• Demonstrate the role of research in expanding the field of cytopathology and in optimizing patient care
• Identify current best practices in Cytopathology and Cytotechnology education
• Create a forum for advocacy on behalf of cytopathologists, cytotechnologists, and their patients.
Earn up to 32.75 CME and CMLE Credits Continuing Medical Education (CME): The American Society of Cytopathology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The American Society of Cytopathology designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 32.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Continuing Medical Laboratory Education (CMLE): The ASC designates this activity for a maximum of 32.75 Continuing Medical Laboratory Education (CMLE) credit hours for non-physicians. The CMLE credit hours meet the continuing education requirements for the ASCP Board of Registry Certification Maintenance Program. Participants should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
American Board of Pathology Maintenance of Certification (MoC): The 67th Annual Scientific Meeting will have up to 65 courses available to help fulfill the CME requirements mandated by the American Board of Pathology Continuing Certification (CC) process.
Earn up to 24.25 SAM Credits Self-Assessment Modules (SAMs): The 67th Annual Scientific Meeting will offer sessions (maximum of 24.25 credits) requiring completion of (SAM) to test knowledge. Video Microscopy Tutorials, Short Courses, Panel Luncheon Seminars and select Scientific Sessions qualify for SAMs.
The ASC will provide oNLINE session evaluations for all attendees to complete in order to receive a certificate for CME/CMLE/SAM credits. This activity is approved for continuing education credits in the State of Florida and the State of California.

Strategies in Cytotechnology Education (CME/CMLE)If you are interested in the continued advancements taking place within the Cytotechnology profession, join us Thursday, Nov 14th from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. This engaging and interactive session relies on feedback from its communities of interest. So, if you are a practicing cytologist, pathologist, student, recent graduate, employer, or educator, plan to attend this session sponsored by the Cytotechnology Programs Review Committee (CPRC).
Strategies in Cytopathology Education (CME/CMLE)If you are a director of a residency or fellowship program, please join us on Sunday, November 17th, 2019 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm for this discussion.
Chinese American Pathologists Association (CAPA) Companion Meeting (CME/CMLE/SAM)This is the first Chinese American Pathologists Association companion meeting at the ASC annual meeting. This educational session will use a case-based format to present a few memorable FNA cases selected from four academic institutions based on its great learning points.
Short Courses (CME/CMLE/SAM) Short Courses (previously referred to as Non-Microscope Workshops) are intensive sessions promoting interaction and the exchange of information regarding specific significant topics.
Video Microscopy Tutorials (CME/CMLE/SAM) Interact with experts in the field during these small, informal slide reviews. Presenters project slides through a video microscope to review interesting cases. Participants do not use individual microscopes.
Roundtable Discussions (CME/CMLE) These sessions encourage intimate discussions on different topics. Each table will have one speaker facilitating up to 9 participants. Participants may register for one topic and are not permitted to switch tables. A box lunch will be included with your participation.
Panel Luncheon Seminars (CME/CMLE/SAM) These interactive sessions focus on a single topic and are presented by nationally known expert(s). The seminars commence with a lunch followed by the lecture. An opportunity for questions and answers is offered at the end of the seminar.
JASC Dinner Seminar (CME/CMLE/SAM) For the first time, JASC will be offering an interactive session commencing with dinner and followed by a panel discussion on How (and Wyh) ROSE is practiced today. There will be time for your questions and answers at the close of the evening.
Sign-out with the Professor (CME/CMLE) These 1 hour sessions provide close contact with an expert in the field doing what we all love, cytomorphology. Each session will focus on one area and the cases will be presented in a sign-out style at a 10-headed or 8-headed microscope. Participants are encouraged to join in the discussion.
Ultrasound FNA Workshop (CME/CMLE/SAM) In this interactive workshop, participants will work with faculty in small groups to improve FNA biopsy technique and learn ultrasound guidance. A short lecture on FNA techniques and US guidance will be followed by practice sessions with the participants divided into small groups of 4-5. With supervision, each participant will practice FNA biopsy and smearing as well as using US guidance.

Koss Lecture: The Science and Skill of Flourishing
The emerging science of Positive Psychology seeks to enable more people to flourish. Flourishing is a combination of feeling good and functioning effectively. It epitomizes mental health. Yet only about 16% of our population is considered flourishing. In this presentation we look at this emerging science of Positive Pyschology, who is and isn’t flourishing, the benefits of living a flourishing life and a set of skills that enable one to flourish.

Strategies in Cytotechnology Education
This year’s Strategies in Cytotechnology Education highlights four important areas that focus on the continued advancements recognized in the Cytology profession.
Session 1: The State of our Cytotechnology Programs and CPRC Update
Provides a baseline on the current state of our Cytotechnology Programs including a CPRC activity update.
Session 2: Experience Share: Teaching Advanced Practice Cytologist Competencies and Skills
Brings a sharing of ideas from peers on how they designed curriculum to train advanced practice skills at the Master’s level.
Session 3: CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines: What’s Changing?
Outlines the recommended updates to the CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines, which include entry-level competencies.
Session 4: Interactive Workshop: Implementing the Master’s Level Advanced Practices in Cytology – Challenges and opportunities
Facilitates a group discussion on how these changes will impact curriculum, student recruitment and resources.
If you are a practicing cytologist, pathologist, student, recent graduate, employer or educator, come share your experiences, questions and ideas as we continue to move towards a Master’s level profession.

Artificial Intelligence and Pathology: Friends or Foes?
The field of artificial intelligence is rapidly entering many aspects of health care, so it is not surprising that applications in anatomic pathology are emerging. This session will focus on applications of artificial intelligence to anatomic pathology, particularly those applications relevant to diagnostic anatomic pathology. An introduction will provide a framework for the discussions around these applications.

Memorable Cytology Cases - Good and Bad Memories
This is the first Chinese American Pathologists Association companion meeting at the ASC Annual Scientific Meeting. This educational session will use a case-based format to present a few memorable FNA cases selected from four academic institutions based on its great learning points. Each case will be presented in the way that it was handled in actual practice. Positive and negative memorable experience will be shared. The presenters will review and update the existing knowledge on cytomorphology, reporting system, and the utilization of ancillary tests. After discussion of each case, important learning points from the case will be given.

Toward a Competency Based Cytopathology Curriculum: What to Teach, How to Teach, and How to Assess
The field of Cytopathology is an expansive and rapidly changing discipline. At present, there is interest by many healthcare professionals and organizations in restructuring clinical workplace curricula to develop a competency-based curriculum for Cytopathology trainees. In this session, a broad array of Program Directors and educators will provide their view on the skills, incentives, resources, and actions required by Cytopathology Training Programs to implement competency-based education and training, including content, novel delivery methods, and assessment. This session will allow ample time for audience participation and moderated discussion.
