Victorinox Swiss Army
HISTORY1884Karl Elsener opens a cutlery workshop
in Ibach-Schwyz with the support of his
mother Victoria.
1891Initiated by Karl Elsener, the Swiss Cutlery
Union is founded. Karl Elsener and his
co-workers deliver soldier’s knives to the
Swiss Army for the first time.
1897The name “Swiss Officer’s and Sport Knife”
is legally protected on June 12. This model
later becomes known around the world as
the “Original Swiss Army Knife”.
1909Following the death of his mother, Karl
Elsener introduces the brand name “Vic-
toria” in her honor. The company’s founder
legally registers the distinctive emblem
with the cross and shield as a trademark.
It is now a registered trademark in more
than 120 countries.
1921The invention of stainless steel being
of central importance for the cutlery in-
dustry, Karl Elsener coins the company’s
new name, “Victorinox” by combining his
mother’s name “Victoria” with “inox”. (Inox
is an abbreviation of the French word “in-
oxydable”, which means stainless).
1931The Brown Boveri Company sets up the
world’s first fully electric heat treatment
facility for Victorinox.
1945The “Original Swiss Army Knife” begins its
successful progression around the world
and is particularly popular in US Army PX
stores.
1979On January 2, the previously solely-owned
“Messerfabrik Carl Elsener” is converted
to the family-owned company “Victorinox
AG”.
1984The company doubles the size of its plant
and office space with 810 employees
generating revenue of more than CHF 80
million.
1989Victorinox’s American distribution partner
enters the timepiece market in the USA
under the “Swiss Army Brands, Inc.” label.
1992The company opens its own sales subsidi-
ary in Japan. Further subsidiaries follow in
subsequent years.
1999Victorinox enters the travel gear market,
issuing a manufacturing license to the
American TRG Group in St. Louis. Expand-
ing its timepiece business, the company
establishes Victorinox Watch SA in Bonfol,
in Switzerland’s Jura watch-making region.
2000The Victorinox Foundation is set up. It holds
85% of the shares in Victorinox AG. A fur-
ther 15% are held by the charitable Carl
and Elise Elsener-Gut Foundation.
2001Victorinox apparel is introduced in the
USA. The first Victorinox Flagship store
opens its doors to the public in New
York’s trendy Soho district.
2002The publicly traded US distribution
partner Swiss Army Brands Inc. is pri-
vatized. The timepiece brand Victorinox
Swiss Army is launched internationally.
2003Victorinox takes over the US-American
company Wenger NA, including the fra-
grance label “Swiss Army Fragrance”.
2005Victorinox takes over the traditional
Swiss cutlery and watch manufacturer
Wenger SA in Delémont in the Swiss
Jura.
2006Victorinox Swiss Army moves to its new
watch production facility in Porrentruy,
in the Swiss Jura, to meet the increas-
ing demand and to ensure high-quality
timepieces.
2007Victorinox sets up Victorinox Swiss Army
Fragrance AG based at its head office.
The former Wenger fragrance line is re-
positioned in the market and is branded
with the Victorinox emblem.
2008The company’s first European Flag-
ship store opens on London’s New Bond
Street.
2009Geneva City hosts first Victorinox Flag-
ship store in Switzerland. 125 years
after its foundation, Victorinox now em-
ploys more than 1800 employees world-
wide and generates revenues of around
CHF 500 million.
2011The success story continues, opening
the Flagship store in Düsseldorf.

COREVALUES
Each Victorinox Swiss Army timepiece em-
bodies the spirit of the legendary Original
Swiss Army Knife, a universal symbol of
functionality, innovation, quality and iconic
design.
ICONIC DESIGN
The Original Swiss Army Knife is one of the
world’s most functional pieces of design.
Victorinox Swiss Army timepieces share
this icon’s spirit and heritage. They are
multi-functional precision instruments
engineered to last, yet also timeless and
contemporary in design.
QUALITY
Victorinox Swiss Army timepieces are designed
and manufactured with the same rigorous
attention to quality as the brand’s legendary
Pocket Tools. They also meet the highest stand-
ards of the Swiss watchmaking industry. The
quality controls and testing that every time-
piece undergoes (material, movement, assem-
bly, finishing, etc.) allow Victorinox Swiss Army
to offer a 3-year limited warranty.
FUNCTIONALITY
Each Victorinox Swiss Army timepiece is de-
signed to optimize its usefulness. Function-
ality ranges from easy-to-read dial designs
to sophisticated professional functions. Eve-
ry design detail is purpose-based. Functions
are never add-ons or embellishments. The
goal is to create watches that are timeless.
INNOVATION
Victorinox Swiss Army constantly enhances
its timepiece lines with new design ele-
ments and innovative functions while seek-
ing creative ways of upgrading existing
components to enhance their capabilities.

The newest member of the Alpnach collection, the
Alpnach Mechanical Chronograph Special Edition,
stands out for its extremely graphic and angular
design. Solidly built and reliable, it provides excep-
tional levels of technicality and performance. The
three diamond-cut sub-counters on the easy-read
dial look like those found in a Cougar cockpit. The
crown and countdown bezel are modeled on the
helicopter’s turbines, the anatomical reset pusher
at 4 o’clock is inspired by the helicopter cycle stick,
and the small seconds counter at 9 o’clock, which
is accurate to ¼ of a second, echoes the Cougar
helicopter’s 4-bladed rotor. The mechanical move-
ment and its day/date complications are visible
through a unique caseback aperture. The tough
strap is constructed of the same technical fabric
used in some Victorinox’s Travel Gear.
Each timepiece is presented in an exclusive
packaging.

The AirBoss watch collection pays tribute to the Air
Boss, this central figure of the Navy, with aviation-
inspired timepieces which feature a key function:
a visual countdown function, based on a bi-direc-
tional rotating inner bezel around the dial, allowing
the Air Boss to precisely track time between aircraft
launches. This intuitive minute countdown timer
is made of a bidirectional rotating inner bezel
(0 – 60 minutes) surrounding the dial and set by
a specific crown on the right side of the case.
The AirBoss Mach 8 Special Edition is equipped
with top-level sophisticated mechanical self-wind-
ing movement, insuring precision and robustness,
while offering an exhibition caseback to view the
mechanisms. It also features the same enhanced
functionality pioneered by Victorinox Swiss Army
by having its movement rotated 180° clockwise,
bringing the start/stop chronograph pusher to
8 o’clock for optimal thumb operation.
A professional compass device accompanies this
Special Edition. Each set is presented in a unique
Collector’s Box packaging.

Launched in 1989, Victorinox Swiss Army’s
first watch is also among its most success-
ful. A perennial favorite among young, urban
customers looking for substance and style,
it authentically reflects both the brand’s
Original Swiss Army Knife heritage and the
classic values of Swiss watchmaking.
Victorinox Swiss Army is now proudly
launching a redesigned Original — freshly
updated with very contemporary aesthetics,
yet instantly recognizable as the authentic
descendent of the line.
