regarding the virtues of blessings /salt0 and salutations /salm0 should be written, in
the same manner the Virtues of the Qurn was written" After the demise of the
$haykh, -awln Abdul A!! constantly reminded me and pressed upon me the
need to fulfil this re5uest and this humble servant was desirous of attaining this greatfortune too, despite his shortcomings" 'ther elders besides $hh (sn /may Allh
have mercy on him0 were also insistent upon this" However, this humble servant was
so overawed by the most glorious status of the 9eader of both worlds, %ride of the
%rophets e, that whenever & intended to write, & feared & might write something
inappropriate to the lofty status of the -essenger e"
:hilst still in this state of evasion, & visited H.i7! last year upon the insistence of
beloved -awln -uh.ammad (;suf /may Allh have mercy on him0 and by the
grace of Allh, & performed my fourth h.a77"

the warnings for not conferring salutations and blessings upon the %rophet e, the
fourth chapter will be on miscellaneous points and the fifth chapter will consist of
stories" -ay Allh grant people the ability to confers.altand salm abundantly" By
reading this book, every reader will realise how great a treasure s.alt and salm is andhow those who are negligent therein deprive themselves of such an immense fortune"
CHAPTER ONE: VIRTUES OF BLESSINGS ANDSALUTATIONS
The most important and foremost virtue is the command and order of Allh Himself"
Allh says in the CurDnE

Allh has ordained many different commands in the CurDn such as prayer /salh0,
fasting, pilgrimage /hajj0 etc" He has also described the noble characteristics of many

blessed %rophets and honoured them" After creating $ayyidun dam u, He ordered
the angels to prostrate towards him" However, nowhere has Allh stated in any
command or in any honour that He is also a participant in this act and that the
believers should follow suit" This respect is solely for the 9eader of both worlds, the%ride of the :orld e" Allh first attributes the act of conferring s.alt towards Himself
and after attributing it towards His angels, finally orders the believers that they too
should also confer s.alt upon him"
:hat virtue could be greater than Allh and His angels also participating with the
believers in this act #urthermore, those with knowledge of Arabic know that the
verse begins with the particle innaadding great emphasis to its meaning and the future
and present tenses have also been used, indicative of continuity" &n other words, it is
most certain that Allh and His angels are constantly conferring blessings upon the
oble %rophet e"
Allma $akhw /may Allh have mercy on him0 writes, >The verse, being in the
present and future tenses which denote continuity and permanence, establishes that
Allh and His angels are always conferring blessings upon the oble %rophet e"?
The author ofRhal-Baynwrites, >$ome scholars have written that the meaning of
Allh conferring His blessings is raising the oble %rophet eto the %raised $tation
/Al-a!m al-ahm"0, which is the station of intercession, and the s.alt of the
angels is praying for the oble %rophetDs e status to be elevated and seeking
forgiveness for the oble %rophetDs e followers" The meaning of the believers
conferring blessings is following the oble %rophet e, having love for him and
mentioning his beautiful 5ualities" This honour granted by Allh to the oble %rophet
eis much greater than the respect shown to $ayyidun dam uby means of ordering
the angels to prostrate before him, because Allh Himself is engaged in this honour of

the oble %rophet e, whereas only the angels were ordered to prostrate before
$ayyidun dam u"?
The intelligent will realize that such an honour has been bestowed
upon neither any other Prophet, nor his followers.

Allh the Exalted confers blessings upon him. Thereby, his
excellence is manifest to all the creation.
The scholars have noted that the oble %rophet eis being addressed with nabin this
verse rather than with his name -uh.ammade, as in the case of other %rophets who
have been mentioned by name" This is out of paramount respect and esteem of the
oble %rophet e" &n one place where the oble %rophet eand $ayyidun &brhm u
have been mentioned together, the oble %rophet e is mentioned by nab and$ayyidun &brhm uis mentioned by name" Allh says,

Allh ordered the believers to confer s.alt upon the oble %rophet e" The oble
%rophet e taught the method thereto re5uest Allh to eternally confer his infinite
mercies upon him, for the blessings and mercies of Allh are boundless" This is also
from the mercy of Allh that the further blessings he confers upon the oble %rophetedue to our re5uest are attributed to us, as though we had conferred them, when in
reality Allh alone is conferring s.alt" :ho possibly had the ability to present the
oble %rophet ewith the gift of blessings, befitting his lofty status
$hh Abdul Cdir / may Allh have mercy on him0 writes, >1e5uesting Allh to
shower His mercy and blessings upon His oble %rophet eand his household is a
great act of virtue" -ercy befitting the oble %rophetDs edescends upon him and by
conferring once, tenfold blessings are conferred upon the suppliant" &t is now the
choice of the suppliant how much he wishes to ac5uire"? /The h.adth $hh Abdul
Cdir /may Allh have mercy on him0 is referring to will be mentioned under h.adth
three0"
:e also understand from this that the ob7ection some ignorant people raise that the
verse is ordering the believers to confer blessings upon the oble %rophet e, whilst
the believers say, >' Allh, confer blessings upon the oble %rophet e,? is ridiculous"
[Their ob7ection is that] the very action Allh ordained upon the believers was
returned by the believers to Allh"
#irstly, when the ompanions yasked the oble %rophet ehow to implement the
CurDnic order after this verse was revealed, this was the method taught by the oble
%rophet e, as mentioned above" $econdly, our re5uesting Allh to confer His choicest
blessings is much greater than anything we could present to the oble %rophet eon
our own part"

Allma $akhw / may Allh have mercy on him0 writes inAl-Qa#l al-Ba" , >&t is
written in the book of Amr -us.t.af Turkamn H.anaf /may Allh have mercy onhim0 that if one asks what wisdom is there in Allh ordering us to confer s.alt when
we counter this order by saying, ' Allh, confer s.alt upon -uh.ammade,D asking
Allh instead to confer His s.alt /&nsalhwe say, ' Allh confer blessings upon
-uh.ammadD, instead of & confer blessings upon -uh.ammadD0, the answer is that the
oble %rophet eis faultless" 'n the contrary, we are full of faults and defects from
head to toe" $o how is it possible for one full of defects to rightfully praise he who is
pure from all blemishes Hence, we re5uest Almighty Allh that He personallyconfers s.alt upon the oble %rophete, so that the s.alt upon our pure %rophete
emanates from the 9ord most pure"?
9ikewise, it is narrated from Allma ayshp;r / may Allh have mercy on him0 in
his bookAl-%atif #a al-&ikamthat a person should not say >& confer blessings upon
-uh.ammad? in hissalh, as the person is not worthy of this" &nstead, he should
re5uest his 9ord to confer blessings upon the oble %rophet e, in which case, Allh is
in reality conferring blessings upon the oble %rophet e and allegorically, it is
attributed towards us as a supplication"
&bn Ab H.a7alah /may Allh have mercy on him0 also mentions something to the sameeffect" He says that when Allh ordered us to confer blessings but our blessings could
not reach the due right, we made this re5uest to Allh He alone truly knows what
befits the status of the %rophet e" This is the same as in the supplication of the oble
%rophet eE >' Allh, & cannot fully praise (ou" (ou are as (ou have praised (ourself"?

Allma $akhw / may Allh have mercy on him0 says, >'nce this point has been
established, oneDs s.alt upon the oble %ropheteshould be conferred in the manner
taught to us by the oble %rophet e" This is how oneDs ranks will be elevated" onfer
blessings abundantly, giving this act its due importance and with steadfastness, for anabundance of s.alt is from amongst the signs of love for the oble %rophet e"
:hoever loves something mentions it fre5uently"?
Allma $akhw / may Allh have mercy on him0 has also narrated from &mm ayn
al6 bidn / may Allh have mercy on him0 that conferring s.alt upon the oble
%rophet eabundantly is a sign of the %eople of $unna /ahl al-sunna0"
Allma ur5n / may Allh have mercy on him0 writes in 'harhal-a#hib, >The
purpose of conferring s.alt is to gain pro=imity with Allh by obeying His order, and
to fulfil a portion of the rights of the oble %rophet ebinding upon us"?
H.fi!. &!!uddin &bn Abdus $alm / may Allh have mercy on him0 says, >'ur
conferring of s.alt is not an intercession for the oble %rophete, for how can we
possibly intercede on his behalf The fact is that Allh has ordered us to repay a
benefactor for his favours, and there is no greater benefactor than our beloved %rophet
e" As we were incapable of repaying the oble %rophet efor his favours, Allh pitied
our weakness and taught us how to repay the oble %rophet e by ordaining the
conferring of s.alt" $ince we were incompetent of this too, we beseeched Allh that
He Himself should reward the oble %rophet ein a manner that befits His ma7esty"?
The aforementioned verse of the CurDn orders the believers to confer s.alt, whereby
the scholars have deemed the conferring ofs.alt to be compulsory"

Allma 1! / may Allh have mercy on him0, in hisAl-(afsr al-)abr,has discussed
an ob7ection which may arise at this point :hen Allh and His angels confer s.alt
upon the oble %rophet e, what need is there for us to do so The answer to this is
that our conferring of s.alt upon the oble %ropheteis not because he is in need of it
in any way" &f this were the case, then the angels would not need to confer s.alt after
Allh had conferred it" 'ur conferring of s.alt is rather an e=pression of reverence for
the oble %rophet e" $imilarly, Allh has commanded the believers to remember Him,
when Allh is in no need of this remembrance"
H.fi!. &bn H.a7ar /may Allh have mercy on him0 has written that some people
5uestioned him as to why the word s.alt has been attributed to Allh in the CurDnic
verse and not the word salm" He replied that it maybe because salm has two
meaningsE /i0 supplication /ii0 to follow and obey" Both meanings are correct withrespect to the believers, and thus they have been given this order" However, the latter
meaning is improper with respect to Allh and His angels and for this reason, salm
has not been attributed to them"
Allma $akhw / may Allh have mercy on him0 has mentioned a very frightening
incident regarding this verse" He narrates that Ah.mad (amni /may Allh have mercy
on him0 said, >& was in $an " & saw that a large gathering was surrounding a person"

had he read this that he became dumb, was struck with leprosy and was left blind and
paralysed"?
This story contains a severe warning" -ay Allh protect us from disrespecting Him,
His Holy Book and His oble %rophets" 'ut of our ignorance and disregard, we are
oblivious to what we utter" -ay Allh save us from His wrath"

blessings in return for conferring s.alt once" :hat could be a greater virtue of s.alt
that one is granted ten blessings from Allh for conferring one blessing How
fortunate are those elders who confer one hundred and twenty five thousand blessings
upon the oble %rophet eon a daily basis, 7ust as & have heard regarding some of theelders of my family"
Allma $akhw / may Allh have mercy on him0 has narrated on the authority of
$ayyidun mir bin 1ab a t that the oble %rophet esaid, >:hoever confers s.alt
upon me once, Allh confers ten mercies upon him" &t is at your discretion to confer as
little or as much as you wish"? A h.adth to the same effect has been narrated on the
authority of $ayyidun Abdullh bin Amr y, with the addition that Allh and His
angels confer ten blessings"
Allma $akhw / may Allh have mercy on him0 has narrated h.adths of the same
sub7ect on the authority of a number of ompanions y" ~lsewhere, he writes, >&n the
same manner Allh has mentioned the %rophetDs ename alongside His own name in
the declaration of faith /shah"a0, and stated obedience and love of the oble %rophet
eto be His obedience and love, He has also coupled conferring blessings upon him e
with His own blessings upon him" Thus, 7ust as Allh has said, 1emember me, & shall
remember youD, with regards to s.alt upon the oble %rophet e, the person who
confers one blessing upon the %rophet e, Allh in return confers ten blessings"?

&nAl-(ar*hb, it is narrated on the authority of $ayyidun Abdullh bin Amr ythat
whoever confers s.alt upon the oble %ropheteonce, Allh and His angels confer
seventy blessings upon him"
'ne should understand at this point that if differing amounts of reward are mentioned
for a particular deed /eg" ten rewards are promised in one h.adth and seventy in
another0, some scholars are of the opinion that because AllhDs favours on the
followers of -uh.ammadeincreased on a daily basis, the narrations which mention
greater reward are the latter h.adths" Thus, it is as though Allh initially promised ten
rewards and then increased this to seventy" 'ther scholars have interpreted this
difference with respect to to various people, times and conditions" /This topic has
already been discussed in the Virtues of 'alhunder the difference narrated in the
reward of twenty five or twenty seven for congregational s.alh0" 1egarding the h.adth
which mentions seventyfold reward, -ull Al Cr / may Allh have mercy on him0
writes that this maybe specific to conferring blessings on #riday, because in another
h.adth it is narrated that the reward for good deeds increases seventyfold on #riday"

narrated, >:hoever confers one blessing upon me, Allh confers ten blessings upon
him" :hoever confers ten blessings upon me, Allh confers one hundred blessingsupon him" :hoever confers one hundred blessings upon me, Allh writes #reedom
from hypocrisy and freedom from the HellfireD on the suppliantDs forehead" 'n the
8ay of udgement, this person will be resurrected with the martyrs"?

$ayyidun Ab; Hurayra t that the oble %rophet e said, >:hoever confers ten
blessings upon me, Allh will confer one hundred blessings upon him" :hoever
confers one hundred blessings upon me, Allh will confer one thousand blessings
upon him, and whoever confers more due to love and devotion, & shall intercede for
him on the 8ay of udgement and be a witness for him"?

This has also been narrated on the authority of $ayyidun Abdurrah.mn bin Awf t
with different wording" He says, >#rom amongst four or five of us, at least one of us
would always remain with the oble %rophet eto attend to his needs" 'ne day the
oble %rophet e went into a garden and & followed him" The oble %rophet e
performe s.alh therein and prostrated for such a long time that & feared the oble
%rophet ehad passed away" & began crying due to this fear and went close to the
oble %rophet eto observe him" After the oble %rophet earose from prostration, he
asked, ' Abdurrah.mn, what is the matterD
& replied, ' -essenger of Allh, you performed such a long prostration that & feared
you had passed away"D
The oble %rophet ereplied, Allh has bestowed a favour upon me with regards to
my followers" &n gratitude for this favour, & prostrated for so long" Allh has informed
me that whoever confers one blessing upon me, He will record ten good deeds for him
and forgive ten of his sins"D?
&n a narration of the same incident, the oble %rophet e asked, >' Abdurrah.mn,
what is the matter? $ayyidun Abdurrah.mn t e=pressed his fear"
The oble %rophet ereplied, >ibrl ucame to me a short while ago and said, :ould
it not please you that Allh has said that whoever confers blessings upon you, Allh
will confer blessings upon him and whoever confers salutations upon you, Allh shall
confer salutations upon himD? /Al-(ar*hb0
Allma $akhw / may Allh have mercy on him0 has also narrated a similar h.adth
on the authority of $ayyidun

$ayyidun Ab; T.alh.a Ans.rt narrates, >'nce the oble %rophet ecame to us and he
was e=tremely happy"
The ompanions ysaid, ' -essenger of Allh, we see that you are very happytoday"D
The oble %rophet ereplied, (es, indeed" & have received a message from my 9ord"
Allh has said that whoever from amongst my followers confers one blessing upon
me, Allh shall record ten good deeds for him, forgive ten of his sins and raise his
status tenfold"D?
&n another narration of the same incident it is narrated, >:hoever from amongst your
followers confers one blessing, & shall confer ten blessings upon him" :hoever
confers salutations once, & shall confer salutations upon him ten times"?
Another narration of the same incident says, >'ne day the oble %rophetDs eblessed
face was radiant with happiness and his pleasure was 5uite noticeable"
The ompanions ysaid, ' -essenger of Allh, the happiness apparent on your face
today has never been seen before"D
The oble %rophet ereplied, :hy should it not be so A few moments earlier, ibrl
ucame to me and informed me, :hoever from amongst your followers confers one
blessing upon you, Allh in return will write ten good deeds in his book of deeds,
forgive ten of his sins, raise his status tenfold and an angel shall repeat to him what he
said"DD
The oble %rophet esaid, & asked ibrl uregarding this angel"D

ibrl ureplied, >Allh has appointed an angel until the 8ay of udgement whose duty
it is to pray for whoever confers blessings upon you by saying -ay Allh confer
blessings upon you too"D? /Al-(ar*hb0
Allma $akhw / may Allh have mercy on him0 has 5uestioned that when according
to the CurDnic verse h%"%eer +ill $%.e +ih a ir*e, &%r hi. here "hall 'e
e li6e here%& (Al?A$2. 5:15) the reward of every good deed is tenfold, what
then is the special virtue ofsalt
According to this humble servant, the answer is 5uite simple the ten deeds received as
promised by the CurDnic verse are separate to the ten blessings from Allh as an an
additional favour" Allma $akhw / may Allh have mercy on him0 has answered his
own 5uestion by saying that AllhDs ten blessings upon the suppliant are much greater
than the ten blessings the suppliant conferred upon the oble %rophet e" #urthermore,
oneDs status being elevated tenfold, forgiveness of ten sins, ten good deeds in the bookof good deeds and the reward e5uivalent to that of freeing ten slaves are all additional
rewards"
H.akm al6&n the same way we understand from the e=plicit wording of
the h.adth that by conferring one blessing ten mercies are revealed, the CurDn
indicates that disregarding the most lofty status of the oble %rophet e /:e seek
AllhDs protection therefrom0 earns a person ten curses from Allh" Thus, Allh said
the following ten words regarding :ald bin -ughra in punishment for his mockery
&allf s#earer, mahn "ishonourable, hamm. "efamer, masshin bi namm
s/rea"er of slan"er, mannil lil khayr hin"erer of *oo", muta" tres/asser, athm
sinner, utull *ross, .anm i*noble, muka"hib lil yt belier of the Qurni0
1erses /The latter meaning belier of the CurDnic versesD is understood from the

Al-3urr al-una..am that the oble %rophet esaid, >He who confers blessings upon
abundantly from amongst you will be the closest to me on the 8ay of udgement"?
&n a h.adth of $ayyidun Anas t, it is narrated that at every stage on the 8ay of
udgement, the closest person to the oble %rophet eshall be that person who confers
the most blessings upon him"
/This topic will be discussed in hapter two under the third h.adth0"
&t has also been narrated that the oble %rophet esaid, >onfer blessings upon me
abundantly, for you shall first be 5uestioned regarding me in the grave"?
&n another h.adth, it is narrated, >onferring blessings upon me shall be a source of
light on the 8ay of udgement in the darkness of the Bridge" :hoever wishes for his
deeds to be weighed in a very large scale should abundantly confer blessings upon
me"? A h.adth on the authority of $ayyidun Anas t narrates that the person most
protected from the horrors of the 8ay of udgement and the various stages therein will
be the person who confers the most blessings upon the oble %rophet ein this life"

&n +" al-'a " , it is narrated on the authority of $ayyidun Anas t that the oble
%rophet esaid, >:hoever confers blessings upon me abundantly shall be in the shade
of the Throne"?
Allma $akhw / may Allh have mercy on him0 narrates a h.adth of the oble
%rophet ewherein three people are promised the shade of AllhDs Throne on the 8ay
of udgement, the day on which there will be no shade e=cept for His shade" The first
is the person who removes a difficulty from a person in affliction" The second is he
who revives a practiceof the oble %rophet e" The third is the person who abundantly
confers blessings upon the %rophet e"
&n another h.adth, Allma $akhw / may Allh have mercy on him0 narrates on the
authority of $ayyidun Beautify your
gatherings with salt, for conferringblessings upon me shall be a light for you on the
8ay of udgement"?
Allma $akhw /may Allh have mercy on him0 narrates from Qt al-Qulb that
conferring in abundance means at least three hundred times" The e=alted -awln
1ashd Ah.mad 2angawh /may Allh have mercy on him0 would also instruct his
disciples to confer blessings at least three hundred times, as we shall mention in
hapter Three under the third h.adth"

blessings upon the oble %rophet e, the angel mentions that person by his name and
his fatherDs name and informs the oble %rophet e that this person has conferred
blessings upon him" Allh has promised the oble %rophet ethat He shall confer ten
blessings upon the person who confers one blessing upon him"
&n another h.adth wherein this angel is mentioned, the oble %rophet eis reported to
have said, >& re5uested my 9ord to confer ten blessings upon whoever confers one
blessing upon me" Allh accepted my re5uest"?
&t is also narrated on the authority of $ayyidun Ab; Allh confers ten blessings upon the person who confers one blessing upon
me" An angel is assigned to this blessing who then conveys it to me"?
The oble %rophet esaid is reported to have said on the authority of $ayyidun Anas
t, >:hoever confers blessings upon me on the day or night of #riday, Allh will fulfil
one hundred of his needs, and appoint an angel to convey it to me in my grave, 7ust as

o ob7ection should arise as to why this h.adth indicates that only one angel is
appointed upon the oble %rophetDs eblessed grave to convey everyoneDs blessings
and salutations to him, whereas the previous h.adth stated that there are many angels
of Allh who travel the ~arth to convey the salutations of the oble %rophets e
followers" The angel appointed at the blessed grave has the sole duty of conveying the
salutations of the oble %rophetDs efollowers, and the angels who travel the ~arth
search for the gatherings of remembrance and wherever they come across blessings
upon the oble %rophet e, they then convey these blessings to him"
&t is common knowledge that if a message is sent to a senior /pious person0 and this
message is mentioned in a gathering, each person present considers it a privilege and
honour that he should convey this message" & have witnessed this many a time in the
gatherings of my seniors and pious elders" Then what can be said regarding the
conveying of blessings to the 9eader of Both :orlds and %ride of the %rophets e
Thus, however many angels convey the blessings, it will be considered ade5uate"

the person who confers blessings from a distance, the previous narrations discuss indetail that an angel is appointed to convey these blessings to the oble %rophet e" The
second point mentioned in this h.adth, that the blessings conferred close to the blessed

to confer blessings close to the blessed grave than conferring from a distance, as the
humility and presence of mind and heart when conferring at close pro=imity is not
found at a distance"
The author ofa.hire &a!!/may Allh have mercy on him0 commenting on this
h.adth says, >&epersonally hear the blessings of the person who is close [to the grave]
without any intermediary and the blessings of the distant suppliant conveyed through
the traveling angels" However, & reply in every case" #rom this, we learn the virtue of
conferring salutations upon the oble %rophet e and the honour granted to the
suppliant, especially one who confers salutations abundantly" &f a person were to
receive a reply to even one of the salutations conferred in a whole lifetime, it would be
sufficient privilege, let alone a response to every salutations"

&n +" al-'a ", it is narrated from Al-a#hib al-%a"unniyya that on the 8ay of
udgement, a certain believer will have less good deeds" The oble %rophet e will
place a small piece of paper the si!e of a fingertip on the scale, whereby the pan of
good deeds will become heavy" The believer will say, >-ay my parents be sacrificedfor your sake" :ho are you How beautiful your appearance and character are?
The oble %rophet ewill reply, >& am your prophet and these are the blessings you
conferred upon me" & have recompensed them in your time of need"?
'ne should not 5uestion how a parchment the si!e of a fingertip can weigh down thescale, because sincerity is of significance to Allh" The more sincerity in oneDs action,
the more it shall weigh" &n the h.adth commonly known as ha"th al-bit!a,a piece of
paper with the declaration of faith /shah"a0 written upon it will outweigh ninety nine
books of bad deeds, each book so big that it stretches out as far as the eye can see"
& have discussed the abovementioned h.adth in detail in hapter Two of the Virtues of
Remembran0e[the fourteenth h.adth] refer to it for more detail" Therein is the e=tra
wording, >othing can be heavier than AllhDs name"? 'ther narrations in the Virtues

There is a difference of opinion amongst the scholars as to whether giving charity is
more virtuous or conferring blessings upon the oble %rophet e" $ome scholars have

said that conferring blessings upon the oble %rophet e holds more virtue than
charity, because the obligation of charity is only binding upon people whereas Allh
and His angels are also engaged in the act of conferring blessings on the oble
%rophet e" Allma $akhw /may Allh have mercy on him0 differs with this view"
Allma $akhw /may Allh have mercy on him0 has narrated on the authority of
$ayyidun Ab; Hurayra ythat the oble %rophet esaid, >onfer blessings upon me,
for conferring blessings upon me is like giving charity"? &n another h.adth, it is
narrated, >onfer blessings upon me in abundance, for it is a charity for you"?
#urthermore, it has been narrated on the authority of $ayyidun Al t that the oble
%rophet e said, >(our blessings upon me are a source of protection for your
supplications, a means of pleasing your 9ord and a charity for your deeds /i"e" a means
to cleanse and increase them0"? $ayyidun Anas t narrates that the oble %rophet e
said, >onfer blessings upon me, for your blessings upon me are an e=piation for yoursins and are an act of charity"?
As for the final portion of the h.adth /the believer does not become satisfied0, the
author ofishkt al-asbhhas narrated this under the virtues of knowledge, and
the author ofir!t al-afthand others have interpreted khayr/goodness0 to mean
knowledge, despite the word khayrholding a wider meaning which encompasses
every good deed"
The meaning is clear" A true believer is never content with his good deeds" He is
always striving to perform any act of virtue by employing any possible method" Thus,
if he does not have any monetary charity, he will earn the virtue of charity byconferring blessings upon the oble %rophet e"

According to this humble servant, it is better to interpret khayrin its wider conte=t so
as to include knowledge and other good deeds" However, the author of a.hire&a!!in following with the author ofir!t al-afthand has taken khayrto mean
knowledge" Thus he writes, >A believer is never satiated with khayri"e" knowledge" &n
other words, he remains in search of knowledge until he dies and eventually enters
%aradise as a result" This h.adth contains glad6tidings for one who seeks knowledge
that he shall depart this world with faith,if Allh wills" &n trying to secure this virtue,
some of the friends of Allh continued seeking knowledge until the end of their lives,
despite having already learnt a substantial amount of knowledge" #urthermore, thefield of knowledge is e=tensive" 'ne may be engaged in teaching or writing but in
reality, such a person will be earning the reward of seeking knowledge"?
CONCLUSION
& briefly conclude this chapter, having discussed two verses of the CurDn and ten
h.adths" The narrations discussing the virtues of conferring blessings and salutations
are many and to mention all of them in this concise book is an arduous task"
-oreover, even if there were not a single virtue, the favours of the oble %rophet
/-ay Allh confer blessings upon him, his family, his ompanions, his followers, and
may He bless them and send salutations upon them0 upon his followers are such thatthey are neither countable nor is it in our capacity to fulfil these rights" Therefore,
regardless of how much the suppliant were to be engaged in this blessed act it would
still be less, let alone the fact that Allh out of His grace grants countless rewards and
favours for fulfilling this obligation"

To begin with, Allma $akhw briefly mentioned the rewards promised for
conferring blessings upon the oble %rophet e" He writes, >hapter Two pertaining to
the reward of blessings on the %rophet eE AllhDs conferring of blessings upon the
suppliant, conferring of blessings by the angels and by the oble %rophet ehimself,an atonement of the suppliantDs sins, purification of his deeds, increase in his status,
forgiveness for his sins, the blessing itself seeking forgiveness on behalf of the
suppliant, reward e5uivalent to one carat /e5uivalent to -ount

other virtues all of which encourage one of understanding to engage therein, he who is
eager to make provision of good deeds and who seeks to en7oy the fruit of such
provisions"?
After briefly mentioning this at the beginning of the chapter, Allma $akhw /may
Allh have mercy on him0 discusses the narrations of each point in detail, some of
which have already passed in hapter 'ne and some of which will be discussed in
hapter Two"
After writing these narrations, Allma $akhw / may Allh have mercy on him0 says,
>&n these h.adths, there is clear evidence for the nobility of this worship" AllhDs
blessings upon the suppliant are tenfold and his good deeds increase, his sins are
atoned and his status is elevated" Thus, confer as many blessings and salutations as
possible upon the 9eader of all 9eaders and the #ountain of %rosperity e, for he eis
the means of attaining happiness and the best of bestowals, and a means of protectionfrom all harm" &n return for your every blessing upon him are ten blessings from the
Almighty 9ord of the ~arths and Heavens and blessings from His noble angels"?
~lsewhere, he reports that &flsh /may Allh have mercy on him0 said, >:hat could be
a greater means of gaining the intercession [of the oble -essenger e] and which
deed could be more beneficial than conferring blessings and salutations upon the
oble %rophet e, upon whom Allh and His angels also confer blessings Allh has
chosen him for His pro=imity in this life and the Hereafter" Blessings upon the oble
%rophet e are an immense light and a trade wherein there is no loss" onferring
blessings and salutations has remained the daily practice of the friends of Allh" Thus,
be as steadfast as possible in conferring blessings and salutations upon him" As a
result, you will be freed from the path of deviation, your deeds will be purified, your
