Changing lives,

one student at a time

The Purpose of Mentoring

To transition the student in, through, and out of college. With an intent to increase awareness, the goal is to retain students through connecting them to academic, business, and community resources.

Most importantly, the intent is to empower students’development through connections with experiencedinstructors, enhancing both their student and graduatelife.

What does the menteeget from being in a

mentoring relationship?

The mentee receives a listening ear, different perspective, and a connecting smile. The mentor is an invaluable resource for encouragement and support.

What does the mentorget out of it?

The mentor benefits from increased problem

solving and interpersonal skills, recognition, and opportunity for success stories.

A mentorship opens the horizons for both parties as networking is a crucial skill and resource in today’s society.

What can be expected?

• To be successful in this effort, it will take a lot of hard work, dedication, and heart.

• Although many standards have been outlined, the mentoring program is a living mechanism that is subject to change.

• Feedback will be the primary drive for change, so don’t be afraid to share your two cents.

• Although flexible, the VSTAR Program will be highly monitored and enforced with a focus on incoming students.

• Precision and accurate reporting is imperative to fine tuning this daring endeavor.

• Be prepared to be amazed.

Who is the student?

Our Response

• “Well, there’s nothing that I can do about that.”
