No Adoption Fee in February! No Adoption Fee in February! Brutus
Hello there! My name is Brutus, and I came to BHS from another shelter when they
ran out of room for me. I am a sweet boy who loves people, but I sometimes tend to
forget how big I am so I might jump a little bit at first! I like to go for walks, but I am
quite strong so the staff walks me wearing a harness and metal leash. I don't get
along with cats, and can be "dog selective," so I would be very happy being the
only animal in the home since I like to be the center of attention! Due to my size, it
would be best for me to be around children over 12 years of age. I am not entirely
housetrained so you would need to work with me on that issue. I would love to find
a forever home where I can be someone's great, loyal, long-time friend, so please fill
out an application 1st if you want to meet me. If you would like to try fostering me
1st, please still fill out an application and specify foster. Thank you.

Hey, there! My name is Starr. I was originally brought to BHS from another shelter
through which I was being fostered. I'm an energetic girl who's looking for an active
family with whom I can go for long walks, play ball, do some hiking, and other fun
activities. In my "down" time I still like to keep busy by chewing on Kongs and
Nylabones. Through positive reinforcement, I've been learning tons of verbal and
hand signal commands and I'd love to continue lessons with my new family...it would
be yet another fun activity to do together! I also love agility and have been getting
quite good at it. I'm looking for a forever home full of love and good times. I'm a
sweet girl who just wants to light up the night of your sky! Please stop by to meet me
soon. I can't wait to start our future together!

No Adoption Fee in February! No Adoption Fee in February! aurora
Hi there. My name is Aurora. My owner had to bring me to BHS because her
landlord was going to evict her if she kept me. I have been here awhile because it
takes me a little time to warm up to people. I get scared of new people, particularly
men, especially loud men, and may growl at you until I learn to trust you. I lived with
another dog in my previous home, but since I have been here at BHS they have
realized that it would be better for me to be in a household where I am the only dog.
Cats don't bother me unless they start to swat or hiss, so if you have a cat and want to
adopt me you will need to make sure that we get along. I have never lived with
children, but my previous owner said I may be okay with kids12 and over. Tammy is a
manager here at BHS and I am her favorite dog :) She is hoping that I can find a
forever home with someone who will be patient, calm, understanding and love me as
much as she does. I am really afraid here, so it will be better if we meet outside of the
cage. Please come and see me soon if you are interested in a sweet dog like me!

Hello, there! My name is Penelope. To tell you a bit about myself, I was originally
brought to BHS in September of 2010 from another shelter, because they had no room
for me. In the beginning, I was a sweet, bashful girl, and I was adopted a few months
later. However, I was returned this past winter due to "issues" I was having with people.
See, my adopters had sent me to a boarding kennel for "training," and the people there
actually used a shock collar on me. I was so scared and confused! I couldn't
understand what was happening, and didn't know how to behave. Upon my return to
BHS, I was sent to a foster home in the hopes that the quieter environment would be
easier on me than the kennel. Unfortunately, the other dog there actually attacked me.
So here I am again! Because of everything I've been through, I'm a little unsure around
some people, and sudden movements make me nervous. I also don't like to have my
paws touched. However, I'm still a sweet, playful girl who loves long walks, belly rubs,
and treats! I'm responding very well to requests like "sit" and "down," and will endearingly
give you my paw to get your attention. I'm looking for a quiet, ALL ADULT household
with no other companion animals so that I can be the only child and have all your
attention. The right family for me will be patient and understanding; and in return, I'll
give them a lifetime of love!

My name is Wyatt. I came to BHS from another shelter where I had run out of time. I have
been through a lot in my young life. I was originally found on the streets of Baltimore with what
appeared to be bite wounds all over me, and my knee was fractured… OUCH! Thankfully, my knee
was repaired. I'm now in a foster home until I can find my forever home. I'm a very sweet, energetic
guy who loves to be around people. In fact, I tend to actually jump on the people I like best because
I'm so happy to see them! Snuggling with people is one of my favorite things to do. I also love food,
playing with toys, and carrying them outside. My foster mom reports that when I get over-excited,
I've even learned how to try to calm myself down with the help of my toys. In my foster home I'm
learning how to walk well on a leash; and have learned to respond to requests like "sit," "down off,"
and "dog in a box" (which means "go to your crate"). According to my foster parents, "He even puts
himself in the crate when he knows that it's time for me to go to work in the morning. If I don't have
morning overtime, he gets confused about why I don't close the door!" I've never been around
cats, so I'm not sure how I would feel about them; although I'm pretty calm around cats I see in the
neighborhood. I basically prefer to have all your love and attention for myself and would really like
to be the only dog in your family. I'd love to get started on our future together, Please make a date
to meet me!

Hi, everyone! My name is Tippy, Tippy the Tank! I'm a member of the famous "Pit 6
Crew." (We were in the news!) Although I may be something of a celebrity, I'm truly a
down-to-earth guy who loves tennis balls and long walks. While my history is open for
speculation, I don't think too much about that. I'm just a happy, well-adjusted dog
with a larger-than-life personality. I'm incredibly affectionate and I love people and
giving kisses - lots of them! In my time at BHS, I've learned basic manners and
obedience through positive reinforcement training. As with all the Pit 6, when I find
my forever home, I will also be provided with a lifetime of behavioral and obedience
consultation as well. What a deal, huh?! If you have children, they should be at least
13 years old. I've got energy to spare, and am looking for an active family on whom
I can lavish all the love I've been storing up for the past several years I've spent in
cages. I've been waiting a LONG time to find my forever home so if you're looking
for a guy who will provide a lifetime of love, please submit an application to get the
process started ASAP! I can't wait to begin our bright new future together!

Hello! My name is Shadow, and I've been around the block a couple times. You see,
I thought I had found my forever home, but unfortunately I was returned back in
February 2011. My previous adopter was told they couldn't keep me where they were
living, and I guess they were unable to move with me. I was adopted AGAIN within a few
months; but returned again! I guess that home just wasn't the one for me, either. I'm
REALLY hoping that this time I'll find my true forever home! I'm an active guy who loves
playing with toys and taking long walks; but I also enjoy snuggling on the couch. I also
love food; so much so that I'm not nuts about being bothered while I eat, so please keep
this in mind! I'm okay with some dogs, but not all and am really looking to be an only
child (human or four-legged)… that way I can have you all to myself! If you do have
children, though, it would be best if they are at least 14 years old. Through positive
reinforcement, I've been learning how to respond to verbal and hand signal requests like
"sit" and "down," and I'd love to continue lessons with my new family. It would be a fun
and useful activity to do together! I'm really hoping that the third time will be the charm
this time around, and that I can find my true happily forever after home.

Hi everybody! My name is Mona, and I was brought to BHS from Animal Control.
They had run out of space, and I was about to pay the price. I was literally about to
be euthanized, when at the very last second my life was saved by some real-life
heroes! BHS said they would take me in to give me a chance at life in a happy
home, and now I am ready to be adopted. I'm an active girl with lots of energy;
where's the party?! I love to jump and give you kisses, and am responding well to
requests like "sit," "down," and "give." I'd really like to work on even more lessons with
my new family! I love meeting new people, but I'm not nuts about cats or other
dogs...I really just want to be the queen of your castle so I can have you all to
myself! I would also be best with children 14 or over, simply because younger chil-
dren may leave a fence or gate open, and that would not be the best scenario for
neighborhood cats or dogs. After getting a new "leash" on life, I'm ready to settle in
with a family of my own with whom I can live each day to the fullest! Please stop by
soon. I can't wait to start our future together!

Hi, everyone! My name is Maris, and I'm a member of the famous "Pit 6 Crew" (we

have a magnificent personality and beautiful disposition. While my history is open for
speculation, I don't think too much about that; my outgoing personality, affection
towards people, and all-around love of life make me a truly exceptional dog! I've
been given an education in obedience, and have excellent manners. In fact, I'm
known as the "heeling queen" here at the shelter! As with all the Pit 6, when I find my
forever home, I will also be provided with a lifetime of behavioral and obedience
consultation as well. I've got energy to spare, but I'm also content snuggling up in
your arms. I love long walks, playtime in the yard, and tennis balls! I really want to be
the only dog in your household- no cats either, please- so I can have you all to
myself. If you have children, it would be best if they are at least 10 years or older.
After spending the last few years in cages, I'm way overdue for a regular life with a
great family in a true forever home! If you're looking for a dog who will provide a

MeMe is a senior English Staffordshire Terrier mix; although you would never know it!
This fast-as-lightning pup has a truly warm, loving personality. She is a member of the
Pit 6 Crew with a sad story behind her as well. After she was rescued from her
dreadful living conditions, she was then placed in Animal Control for two years
awaiting the conviction of her previous owner for Animal Abuse. Now that she is with
BHS, MeMe is being educated on manners and obedience. She is a very smart dog
who has made tremendous progress in a very short period of time. MeMe wants
nothing more in life than to be shown love and affection. In fact, she will often press
herself tightly against people just so she can be as close as she possibly can; all the
while giving kisses and showing off her belly! She is as playful and energetic as a
young puppy. Please come meet this beautiful love bug - she will make you fall in

Hi! My name is Rosie. I was found running down a road all alone and now I’m up for
adoption! I'm an active girl with lots of energy. You may notice me in my run jumping
up and down for hours...boing, boing! I adore playtime with all kinds of toys and lots
of long walks, but I'll also lay on a couch or in your lap and settle in for a nap. Not
much is known about my past, but so far the staff has learned that I can be okay
with other dogs. So if you have a dog, the staff will schedule a meet-and-greet be-
tween us to see how we get along! I'm learning to get a handle on the whole "potty-
training" thing; as well as how to respond to requests like "sit" and "down." I'd like to
continue lessons with my new family. I'm an all-around sweet dog who may be good
with children who are at least 12 years old due to my high level of activity. If you
have any, I'd love to meet them! I would really like to find a forever home filled with
love and happiness. Could it be with you? Please stop by to meet me soon!

Pleased to meet you! My name is Josie, and I was brought here from another shelter
because they had no more room for me. I am a very sweet, spunky girl who's looking
for some action! I'd love for my family to take me jogging, hiking, or at least on lots of
long walks. I get so excited about all the places to go and see that sometimes I
forget and pull a little hard. That’s why I walk best on an Easy Walk harness. I'm pretty
picky about other dogs - and cats - so I'd prefer to be the queen of the castle.
Because I like kids, but may get a little excited around them, it would probably be
better for me to only be around those who are 8 or older. I’d hate to accidentally
knock them over! I enjoy tennis balls and nyla bones, but when it comes to stuffed
animals and rope toys, I love them a little too much and just eat them (whoops!). As
you can probably tell, I try to live life to the fullest. I can't wait to get started on my
exciting new future with you. Please stop by for a visit soon and we can get my
adoption started!

Hi, there! My name is Diamond. I was originally brought to BHS in March of 2011
because my previous guardian felt he could no longer keep me in his tiny
apartment. I was adopted once, but was returned because they said I wasn't the
dog for them. My feelings were hurt, but at least I can now find my forever family!
Since I've been here I've had play dates with other dogs. Naturally I don't like
EVERY dog I meet, but if you have another dog, the staff here will schedule a
meet-and-greet between us to see how we get along. I love just about everyone
I meet, although sometimes I’m a little scared of small children. I'm an active girl
who loves hiking and playing with my toys, especially the squeaky ones!
Sometimes I don't like to share them - and I definitely don't like to share my food -
so please keep that in mind. I'm doing really well responding to requests like "sit"
and "down." Stop by so I can show off to you! Let me bring some sparkle to your

I LOVE warm laps, rubby-loving, and exploring my surroundings; and my

Hello there. My name is Enzo. I was originally brought to BHS in 2007
as a kitten and then adopted in 2010. However, I am back here
again because I didn't get along with the other cats in my house.
I also was stressed and would nibble a bit on the sofas in my previous
owner’s home, which he didn't like very much. I just need a home
where it’s calm, quiet, and relaxing. I would probably even prefer
no other animals as I get a little anxious. I am the prettiest, and

Hi there! My name is Pawsy, and I am on a search for my forever home! I was
adopted from BHS back in 2010, but was returned because I was having
"litterbox issues." I seem to be doing just fine with my litterbox here at the shelter.
The staff speculates that perhaps, like many cats, I simply have a preferred litter
texture that I like to use. My previous guardians said I seemed to want to go
outside a lot, so I would love some big sunny windows to sit in! I'm a real
sweetheart who likes people and really hope you'll seriously consider me as a
new addition to your family. I'm currently staying in a communal cat room at BHS

appropriately, and wanted me to be able to find my true forever
home. I'm an all-around sweet guy who likes people, and I'm sure
you can't miss my dashing good looks! If you're looking for a
wonderful companion to share your heart and home, please stop
by to meet me right away!

No Adoption Fee in February! No Adoption Fee in February! baby
Hi there! My name is Baby I was brought to BHS with my housemate
Neo because our guardian lost his home, and we had nowhere to
go. I'm a little shy, so please be patient with me if you decide to
meet with me. I enjoy big, soft, comfy cat beds and feather wands
to play with! I’d love to find a loving forever home… could it be
with you? I’m sure hoping it is!

paintball
Hello! My name is Paintball, because I was found by a nice group
of guys at a paintball course. It didn't take long for the staff here to
learn that I'm a total sweetheart who really likes people! No one
knows how long I was wandering outside all alone, so now I'm
hoping so much to find my very own warm, loving forever home! I
love to lay on soft beds and get lots of attention. Are you looking
for a special someone to share your heart and home? Please look
no further!

Hello! My name is Mimosa. I was originally adopted from BHS in 2008,
but I have been returned because my previous adopter could no
longer care for me. Sometime in my past, someone actually had parts
of my front toes amputated (ouch!), which is also known as being
declawed. Because of this, I can be a little feisty and wouldn't be
considered a "lap cat." However, if you'd like a lovely, loyal
companion to share your life, then look no further! I'm really hoping
that I can find my true forever home this time around. Please tell me it
will be with you!

Hello! My name is Warrio, and I was abandoned at the BHS gate along
with my 3 housemates, Princess Peach, Bowser, and Mr. Robotnik. We
were in a crate all together with no note attached, so nothing is really
known about our history. However, I can tell you that I am a very shy
guy; so I'm really hoping to find a forever home with some great
people who will be patient and understanding with me. Think you
have room in your heart and home for a sweet boy like me? I'll be a
wonderful lifelong friend for a very special someone! Please stop by to
meet me soon!

gate along with my 3 housemates, Bowser, Warrio, and Mr.
Robotnik. We were in a crate all together with no note attached,
so nothing is really known about our history. After all that we've
been through, I can tell you that I was pretty scared when I first got
here. But I've settled in pretty well, and like to spend time with
people and be petted. Think you have room in your heart and

No Adoption Fee in February! No Adoption Fee in February! goo
Hello! My name is Goo, and I was brought to BHS with my sister Tara
after we were found outside of a vet hospital. The nice staff there
took care of us for awhile, but they couldn't do it forever! Tara has
already been adopted. So now I'm really hoping to find my forever
home as well. Sometimes I do have a tendency to be a little timid,
so just be patient with me please; it won't be long before I warm
up and fall in love with you! If you are looking to add a nice young
girl to your family, then please visit BHS soon so you can see how
sweet I am for yourself. Thank you!

Hi, everyone! My name is Nintendo, and I was brought to BHS
because my previous guardians could no longer afford to give me the
care I deserve. I have lived in a home with another cat, Yoshi, so I may
do just fine with any others in your home. Of course, we always need
an adjustment period! I am still a bit scared in this environment, so
please keep that in mind if you decide to meet me. I can be a pretty
independent kind of guy; perfect for someone who might have a busy
work schedule, but would like to come home to a warm, furry friend at
night! I'm really hoping to find my forever home ASAP. If you think I
could be the guy for you, please look no further!

Hello! My name is Ra, which is the same name as the ancient
Egyptian sun god. Just like her, I'm hoping I can light up your life
and add warmth to your home! I was brought to BHS in a trap
because I was found out in the wild on a farm. I was terrified when
I first came here, and am still a bit timid. It's very strange going
from the wide-open wilderness to a small cage! I know that if you
just give me some patience and understanding, I'll make a great
companion for life. Please stop by to meet me soon. I'll be waiting.

Hi there, I'm Peaches! I originally came to BHS from another
county's Animal Control facility after I was seized from a hoarding
situation. I'm looking to start a new life now, one where I'm cared
for properly and have a nice forever home to share. I'm a good
bunny, although I could use some socialization. So I may not be
the best choice for homes with small children. Think I'm the girl for
you? Come on out to the shelter to see me and fill out an
application!

Hi there! My name is Shimmer and I came to BHS with my friend
Glitter because our previous guardians were moving, and didn't
take us with them. They had tried to bond us with each other, but
it didn't go so well, as it takes awhile for us rabbits to bond to an-
other. So, I'm just a sweet girl looking for a nice family with a forev-
er home to call my own! If you're looking for a fluffy friend, please
look no further!

Yukon Medical Fund
Yukon’s Story...
Yukon was brought to Baltimore Humane Society in April of 2010. At that time,
he was a one year old male, husky-mix full of energy and optimism. When
Yukon was being neutered, the veterinarian at the shelter discovered he had a
very large cleft palate on the roof of his mouth. He was probably born with this
abnormality and was lucky to have survived. Most dogs with an opening as
large as Yukon’s cleft palate, would have died due to pneumonia, but Yukon
beat the odds and survived an entire year with this medical condition.
As a no-kill shelter, Baltimore Humane Society is dedicated to helping it’s shelter
residents medically so they can live full lives. By working with the Animal Dental
Center, an area specialty practice located on Cromwell Bridge Road in Tow-
son, Yukon was scheduled for a surgical procedure to repair his cleft palate. Dr.
Ira Luskin and Dr. Tiffany Brown, both Diplomates of the American Veterinary
Dental College, devised a surgical plan to get Yukon healthy again. According
to Dr. Luskin, the owner of the Animal Dental Center, “We love being able to
help our patients and serve our community by working with organizations such
as yours to make those small differences in the lives of these animals and
hopefully offer them a better quality of life as a result.” Yukon has several
extensive oral surgeries and is now fully recovered. He is living with a very
special adoptive family who made a place in their home and hearts for him.

When a pet is surrendered to the Baltimore Humane Society, they are: examined by a staff veterinarian
vaccinated for the most common infectious diseases
tested for heartworm (if a dog) or feline leukemia and feline
immunodeficiency virus (if a cat)
wormed for intestinal parasites
treated with flea prevention
microchipped
spayed or neutered before being placed up for adoption
This generally costs the shelter a significant amount of money, but it’s a worthwhile
investment for a chance for a pet to get a “Forever Home”. Unfortunately, not all
animals come to the shelter in a healthy condition. Some, like Yukon, are found to
have medical conditions that require further diagnostics, advanced medical
treatment, and sometimes advanced surgical procedures before they can be
adopted out to the community. Even with the generous discounts that these wonderful specialists are able to offer
the shelter, advanced medical care like the care that Yukon received can get ex-
pensive for a non-profit shelter organization. At the Baltimore Humane Society, if an
animal arrives with a medical condition that is treatable, they will receive the
medical care necessary to get them healthy again and adopted out into the
community. The cost of these medical procedures can add up quickly and place a huge
financial burden on an already strained animal shelter’s budget. That’s why we
developed “The YUKON Fund” to be a pool of monetary donations set aside
specifically for the advanced medical needs of shelter residents. Now shelter animals that require further medical attention can receive the same
quality of veterinary care that owned animals receive. With your generous donation,
every animal surrendered to Baltimore Humane Society will have a chance to
have a healthy life in a “Forever Home.”
