Water the most precious natural resource for all living beings is demanding attention for sustaining life on earth. Looking to the alarming situation of water scarcity and clean water need, United Nations (UN) have declared 'Clean water and sanitation' as a Sustainable Developmental Goal (SDG) to achieve by the year 2030. It's essential to make people aware about WATER as a subject in association with all related aspects that can help to achieve the SDG within time frame. In nature more than 70% water exists on the earth as well as in the human body. Undoubtedly it's the natures demand to place 70% of the thoughts and efforts for sustaining water. Scientific Publishers, India has considered water as a subject to understand better and have published scientific information on water analysis, water harvesting, water measurement, rain water management, waiste water reuse. It gives me profound feeling to share with our readers that the books dedicated to WATER as a subject will definitely come up as a reference book for scientific and non-scientific community to understand the problem of water as a resource and to contribute as a citizen of the worlds to make WATER sustainable for coming generations.

The book on “Global Groundwater Resources and Management” has been aimed at growing recognition of depleting world groundwater resources, their contamination, future requirement of the fast growing human population of the world and urgent need of a better groundwater resources management system. The issues are quite complex but now they have crossed all the political boundaries and have become a common cause. The biggest challenge before the scientific community is to integrate valuable scientific advances and technological progress to solve the issue based on holistic and effective sustainable groundwater management. The book comprises the selected papers presented from all over the world at the 33rd International Geological Congress, Oslo, Norway, August 6 -14. 2008. A referee system of high, international standard has been used to review all the papers thoroughly before accepting them for publication. Each paper has been reviewed by at least two internationally recognized subject experts. In many cases as many as 5 or 6 subject experts have been contacted for the review work for a single paper because a much delayed
response from the first two reviewers. Fortunately, all of them have sent their review comments simultaneously but at a later date.

The manual has been written keeping in view the problems being faced by the technicians and extension workers with practical guidelines on the implementation of water harvesting schemes. The manual is also useful for wider audience, such as rural development specialists and planners. The main focus of the manual is on simple, field scale systems for improved production of crops, trees and rangeland species in drought prone areas. The manual is also relevant to arid and semi-arid areas in all parts of the world where the basic problem low and erratic rainfall, high rates of runoff, and unreliable food production are similar. It provides the field worker with selection criteria and detailed technical designs for the various systems, as well as information on field layout and construction.
The author has made all efforts to keep the manual a practical working document, using all related material other than text.It is hoped that the manual will serve as a useful field and guide for the implementation of water harvesting schemes. It can be used as a general reference manual by all researchers.

The Book was produced by CDM Smith Inc. (CDM Smith) under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It has been subjected to EPA's peer and administrative review and has been approved for publication. This book updates and builds on the 2004 Guidelines for Water Reuse the book by incorporating information on water reuse that has been developed since the 2004 document was issued. This document includes updated discussion of regional variations of water reuse in the United States, advances in wastewater treatment technologies relevant to reuse, best practices for involving communities in planning projects, international water reuse practices, and factors that will allow expansion of safe and sustainable water reuse throughout the world.

The EPA first published a Water Treatment Manual on Disinfection in 1998. Since the publication of this manual there have been significant developments both in terms of the technology and understanding of the disinfection of drinking water and in the supervisory role of the EPA in the drinking water area. This manual has been prepared to reflect best practice in drinking water disinfection. The main changes to the manual include: Integration of the Water Safety Plan approach through-out the manual; A substantial revision of the UV chapter due to the latest research regarding its effectiveness in dealing with Cryptosporidium; A new chapter on Chlorine Dioxide; Updating of the chlorine, chloramination and ozone chapters to reflect current research; New appendices to give guidance on practical operational of disinfection systems including troubleshooting; A new Appendix on emergency disinfection.

Access to safe drinking-water is essential to health, a basic human right and a component of effective policy for health protection. Access to safe drinking-water is important as a health and development issue at national, regional and local levels. The World Health Organization (WHO) published three editions of the Guidelines for drinking-water quality in 1983–1984, 1993–1997 and 2004, as successors to previous WHO International standards for drinking water, published in 1958, 1963 and 1971. This edition of the Guidelines for drinking-water quality integrates the third edition, which was published in 2004, with both the first addendum to the third edition, published in 2006, and the second addendum to the third edition, published in 2008. It supersedes previous editions of the Guidelines and previous International Standards. The Guidelines are addressed primarily to water and health regulators, policymakers and their advisors, to assist in the development of national standards.

Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) techniques have been utilized throughout time as some irrigation methods have been used by the people of Ur (present Iraq) around 4500 BC and are at present used in India (Khadin structures). Today rainwater harvesting is being used worldwide for drinking (human and livestock) and agricultural purposes. Previously, the concept of rainwater harvesting has received very little consideration (especially for drinking purposes) in larger donor financed projects, but recently, with the increasing pressure on available water resources, renewed interest has emerged. The main objective of this handbook on rainwater harvesting is to provide AfDB with an effective reference tool for including various rain water harvesting approaches and techniques in the programming and design of projects. Groundwater is a priceless resource lying beneath most of the earth's land surface. In the United States, groundwater supplies about 25 percent of the nation's domestic, agricultural, and industrial water. Fifty percent of the United States” population depends on groundwater for its drinking water supply. In the future, as much attention will be paid to water-quality preservation and resource conservation as to resource development. The principal objective of this book is to provide the necessary technical knowledge to locate, extract, treat, and protect groundwater so that current and future generations can depend on this resource to enhance their quality of life. Significant advances have been made in almost all phases of groundwater technology in recent years. Enhanced understanding of the groundwater environment, new geophysical exploration techniques, advances in well drilling methods, improved drilling fluid additives and screen designs, the development of groundwater quality monitoring technology, and remarkably effective new water treatment methods are just some examples. The approach of this book is pragmatic rather than theoretical. The material is presented so the interested reader, regardless of background, will
gain a good understanding of the physics, chemistry, and hydraulics of groundwater and the various technologies used to develop this resource.
