WebQuestsWebquests were invented by Bernie Dodge and Tom March at San Diego

State University in 1995.

What is a Webquest?

• an inquiry-based activity that involves students in using web-based resources and tools to transform their learning into meaningful understandings and real-world projects.

• Good webquests are highly visual, easy to use.

Exploring the Web!

• Most or all of the information used by learners is found on pre-selected websites.

Objective

• The objective of the activity is to promote "transformative" learning outcomes,

accomplished through the reading, analysis, and synthesis of Web-based information.

Six Building Blocks

• The Introduction – orients students and captures their interest;

• The Task – describes the activity’s end product;

• The Process – explains strategies students should use to complete the task;

• The Resources – are the Web sites students will use to complete the task;

• The Evaluation – measures the results of the activity; and

• The Conclusion – sums up the activity and encourages students to reflect on its process and results.

Let’s Begin

• First, choose a topic.

• Next, google your topic – you want to see what’s out there. Save any potential web sites.

• Think big and then narrow – for example,you many want to start with insects and then narrow to a specific one like “bees.”

• Programs• Microsoft Office• PowerPoint

• Upper left hand “New Slide” click.• Ways to navigate: Click the slide thumbnail…

…to display that slide

• Using the Insert menu to insert content onto the slide.

• Be sure to select the content placeholder before you insert from the menu.

• A design template, a layout, and decorative Clip Art give a boost to the look of your show.

• When you've nailed down the text for your slide show, lift the presentation out of its black-and-white doldrums by applying a design template. A template provides color, style, and decorative accents.

Applying a design template.• Select a single slide thumbnail on the Slides tab.• In the Slide Design task pane, click a template

thumbnail to apply the template to all slides.• The design template determines the look and colors

of the slides, including the slide background, bullet and font styles, font color and size, placeholder position, and varied design accents.
