Adoption Curve
time and diffusion
fanboys
gadget lovers
trendy buyers
most folks
the cautiousfew
Folks adopt new products/technology at different rates, but the distribution of behaviours plots out on a common bell curve often broken into these stages.
Different products, different rates.
Over the years North Americans have adopted different technologies at vastly different rates.
The PDA
Newton MessagePad 1001993
PalmPilot 1996
I was in the innovator camp when it came to early PDAs. The Newton failed to cross the chasm of adoption, the PalmPilot caught fire until the smartphone stomped on it.
Blu-ray vs. DVD
Blu-ray is in the innovator, early adopter stage. Because of the format wars (with HDTV) and coming increases in broadband speed and penetration, and because most people might only see incremental improvement, it might not catch on.
Your turn
Asked students to form a line at the front of the room from Innovators on the left wall to Laggards on the right putting themselves where they think they fit on the line. Asked for discussion.

Social Media Tutorialswith Wayne MacPhail
What is Twitter? It’s a social media tool that
asks the question:
What are you doing right now?
You have 140 characters to answer.
It’s called microblogging.
You can “listen” to people all over the world answering
that question.
Eating toastLate
for work
Failed math
Wayne, that isthe stupidest thing
I’ve ever heard.
I don’t have timefor that.
Fair enough, butlet’s take a look.
Recording a tutorial about Twitter.
Okay, let’s diveinto the real site.
