How is Mrs. Clark going to teach TWO grade levels at the same time?
The answer: TECHNOLOGY!Your student will spend some time learning at the computers, just like
you are right now.
Math
PowerPoint Lessons
Each math lesson includes a PowerPoint presentation, which one grade level will view independently while I teach the other grade level.
Personal Tutors– Short videos of
lessons are presented by “Personal Tutors”
– Here Mrs. Varughese is showing how to find the prime factorization
of 54

Spelling
Pretests I will use a program
similar to the Personal Tutors to record spelling pretests. As students correct their pretest, I will provide instruction about the spelling rule we’re focusing on that week.
Social Studies
Online Textbook Our complete
social studies text book is online. Students can click on the text, and the computer will read it aloud to them.
Reading
iTunes Students will
listen to stories in their reading textbook and core literature novels on iTunes
Science & Social Studies
– Students will learn how to create their own PowerPoint presentations on topics such as:
– Explorers– The 13 Colonies– Famous

Your child is also encouraged to use
technology at home.
Our class website is full of resources to enrich your child’s learning.

Students can take practice comprehension tests on their library books each week before they take their AR tests.

Part of our weekly Home Reading Log assignment includes writing an online summary of a library book on our Book
Blog.
Links that Support Home Reading
There’s no excuse for being “bored” at home. There are plenty of educational games here to keep students
productively busy for hours and hours. Click on “Just for Fun.”
Don’t have a dictionary or thesaurus at home? No problem. You can find an assortment of resource
materials written just for kids under our “Newspapers, Magazines, and Resource Guides for Kids” link.

Your child will have math homework every day, but they will not need to carry their heavy math book home. Our entire math
textbook is online, and your child can access it through our class website.
Just follow this path:

4. This page contains links for the Personal Tutor videos and other resources, but if you click on “Student Works Plus” it will take you to the textbook.

5. You’ll need to enter an access code, which is on your child’s desk tonight.

You have access to your child’s complete gradebook 24 hours a day.
Just follow this path:
Online Gradebook
1. Enter the website and click on the “Gradebook” link.
2. This takes you to the JupiterGrades login page. You will need to enter your student’s name and password, which I have emailed to you (if you have not received my email, please let me know tonight).
In addition to giving you the ability to see every grade on every assignment, JupiterGrades is set
up to automatically alert you by email if:
Your child has a missing assignmentYour child receives a grade less than C
Please keep yourself informed about your child’s progress and help him/her learn good study habits.
Online Gradebook
Fourth graders are required to earn 25 AR points for the first trimester (30 for the second and third trimesters).
Fifth graders are required to earn 30 AR points for the first trimester (35 for the second and third trimesters)
The Home Connect link gives you 24 hour access to your child’s progress in AR. You can also set Home Connect up to alert you whenever your child takes an
AR test.

1. Click on the “Home Connect” link.
2. Enter your child’s AR User Name and Password (the same ones they use in school when they take an AR test).
Daily Blog Each day a different student will use the iPad to write a brief summary of
the day’s activities. Please read their blogs every day, and feel free to leave a comment!
Mrs. Clark’s Blog I will also write blogs from time to time. Please check in often for
important updates and information.

What’s for Homework Tonight? Each day students are responsible for writing their homework in their
Agendas. I will also post their assignments on our website, so you will never have to wonder what your child’s homework assignments are.
Math Homework Help Each day I will post a short video either reviewing today’s math concept or
working through a particularly difficult word problem. Please encourage your child to take advantage of this extra help.
