• Something most people don’t know about me: I climbed the Great Wall of China! I’ve scuba-dived with sharks. I’ve raised cattle. I co-authored and edited a published book. I am now a 3-time Mustang.

Classroom Policies – General• ID Badge ON – hanging around neck• Be on time and be ready in your seat when the bell rings• Bring all necessary supplies every day – Binder and Journal are

essentials every day• Pick-up handouts, check board and begin work immediately• No leaving classroom during tests• Only bottled water is allowed – no other drinks, food, or gum• Homework – If I assign it, you do it!• Keep all graded work in binder• Bathroom/water – you have 7 passes for all year; use them

wisely – once gone, no more to be issued; write your name on the back of each one now

• Keep desks aligned straight unless we move them for groups

Format – Follow a Template! • OBJECTIVE: Outline what your ultimate goal is – in 1 sentence• EDUCATION: List your degrees, majors, minors, and the

school/schools where you received them• WORK EXPERIENCE: List job titles, names of employing

organizations, and dates of employment, as well as descriptions of what you did on the job

• VOLUNTEER WORK: List community service, dates of service, and work performed

• HONORS/AWARDS: List any honors or awards and the dates received

• SKILLS AND/OR ACHIEVEMENTS: Focus on your major areas of strength. Use skills categories such as Communication, Language, Computer, etc. Demonstrate how you achieved those skills by using action verbs to give concrete examples

qualifications of the position for which you are applying. • Correct grammar is absolutely essential! • SPELL CHECK!• Proofread – MANY times!• Have other people check for ANY errors

Cover Letter • Step 1: Personalize your cover letter• At the top:• Add a personal letterhead.• Note the date.• Write recipient’s name and address.• Greet recipient or write “To Whom It May Concern:”

Cover Letter • Step 2: Tell the employer why you are writing to them• In the first paragraph, state the position for which you are

applying.• Step 3: Match your qualifications to the requirements• In the second paragraph, make your qualifications jump out by

outlining and emphasizing your strengths. Explain how your strengths will help accomplish the job at hand.

• Step 4: Motivate the employer to action• In the closing paragraph, include a positive statement to

stimulate interest and urge them to take action.• Specify your availability for an interview.
