13

Notes in agenda:If nothing is written in agenda, consider it a good day!

We believe students need recess and won’t keep them inside unless they are behind in work or have repeated notes in agenda.

14

Study HabitsAbsentStudents are accountable for their work when they are absent.

If your child is absent, please make arrangements to get their work. A lot of our assignments build upon what is taught each day and they will quickly get behind.

If you know your child will be absent, please send a note so we can send them home with their work.

15

BehaviorStudy Habits

We love to praise and celebrate student achievement in behavior, study habits, and extracurricular activities! Let us know their accomplishments outside of school!

We are implementing Love and Logic this year and will be incorporating many team building activities throughout the year.

Reading

Reading logs: Minimum 25min. a night. Why is this important? There is a correlation between independent reading and higher test scores. Students’ responsibility: Write title of book, track minutes, total minutes at the end of the week, type of genre, written response for both fiction and nonfiction.

Book Reports: 1 per nine weeks. They can use this same book as their reading logs. Don’t procrastinate!

Independent Reading: Always carry a current novel with you. I not only assign time in class to read, but we do activities with it.

18

Reading Interactive Reading Notebooks We will be going through the Common Core standards using notebooks to record and track our progress.

How are students assessed? Students can always use their reading material to go back in the story. I want them to take a step beyond memorizing and move towards analyzing the text. For example, we work on text connections, visualizing, inference, cause/effect, point of view, author’s purpose, etc.

19

Reading

Scholastic Books: Great way to get books for your child as well as earn books for our class library. You can order online or a check can be made out to Scholastic. Please no cash!

Vocabulary/Grammar Please purchase a vocabulary and grammar book for your student. There is a table set up to make your purchase.
