Project location of SAVE THE TREES
Results of last years’ project
Expected result 1: Training of villagers about production of trees in nurseries, establishing plantations and managing agroforestry plantations. • A forestry committee of 35 members (more women then men)
with intern regulation, approved by the general assembly
• Determination of area of 13 ha to be forested by Bolaina blanca
• Training of villagers about agroforestry systems, more concretely about growing seedlings and establishing tree plantations. – Establishing a nursery
– Making a manual about making a nursery
• Permanent technical assistance – Horizontal communication
– Being part of the community, gaining confidence.
Results of last years’ project
Expected result 2: Establishing 12 ha of agroforestry plantations, combining annual crops for food security and trees • A forestry nursery has been installed of 20x30 m, with a
capacity of 16.000 seedlings • 13.400 seedlings of Bolaina have been produced by local
women • Particular materials and equipment for the nursery and the
plantation are purchased. • 12 ha of agroforestry plantations (maize, banana, cassava,
…) are installed with the Bolaina tree seedlings; 12.145 trees are planted within the fields of the 16 beneficiary families.
Results of last years’ project
Expected result 3: Raising awareness and training about surveillance of the buffer zone of the Protected Area SIRA within the properties of the native community • There are materials developed and distributed to raise awareness:
• There have been organized 4 informative events, for villagers in general and for members of the surveillance committee in particular, about the following themes: – Natural resources of the village
– Ecosystem services
– Importance of natural reserves
– Impacts of deforestation
• 11 members of the surveillance committee of Nuevo Ahuaypa are given proper materials for implementing their work.

Awareness building within both comunities and training of their forestry committees about importance of management of natural resources
More than 50% of the population of both comunities are aware of the importance of managing the natural resources
More than 40 villagers from both communities have improved their capacities about managing forest
Result 4 Market orientation of the timber from the Bolaina plantations
