TheWestWarwickHEZFoodAccesscollaborativeaimstoincreaseconsumptionoffreshfruitandvegetablesinWestWarwick,acommunitywithlimitedaccesstotransportationandretailfoodstores.In2017,WestbayFarmsandThundermistHealthCenters,hostedtwoweeklysummerfarmersmarkets,andWestbayCAPheld4monthlymarkets.Inaddition,theHEZcollaborativesponsored6"pop-up"farmersmarketsdesignedspecificallytoincreaseaccessforpeoplereceivingseniorcoupons,SNAPbenefits,andWICprogramvouchers.These'pop-ups'wereheldat4WestWarwicklocations:thePublicLibrary,theCivicCenter,theSeniorCenter&WICoffice,andtheHEZHub,andweresupportedbyFarmFreshRI.

WestWarwickisacommunitydeeplyaffectedbytraumaticstress:toomanypeopleexperienceabuse,violence,andpoverty.Traumaticstress,ortoxicstress,isaformofchronicandprolongedstresscausedby

adversechildhoodexperiencessuchasabuse,neglect,exposuretoviolence,orpoverty.Ithasinter-generationalandlifelongeffectsonanindividual'sphysicalandmentalhealth,withadditionalimpactson

thesocial,emotional,andeducationaldevelopmentofchildrenandadolescents.TheTeenHealthworkgroupidentifiedreducingtheeffectsoftraumaticstressforstudentsasatopprioritywiththegoalofachievingfundingtocreateatrauma-informedschoolcommunityby2021.Theyarepilotingatwo-part

trauma-informedtrainingfor40-50highschooleducators,counselors,socialworkers,andschoolstaff.Thetrainingwillprovidetheknowledgetoidentifythesymptomsoftraumaticstress,toolstocreateasafelearningenvironment,andwaystomitigatetheaffectsofsecondarytraumaticstressontheeducator.
