Kaliningrad area

• Not bordering other parts of Russia. Borders Lithuania and Poland.140 кm of the Baltic sea line

• Population about 1 mln

History• 16th century: part of East Prussia

• Since 1945 part of Soviet Union, people from Russia and Ukraine were settled here,

• In 1946 renamed to Kaliningrad area,

• After the war only 9% of buildings in Kaliningrad remained intact; the town started being rebuilt.

Nature and climate

• Climate mild, pretty rainy,

• July average t: + 17°C, January - 3°C,

• Strong winds from the sea,

• August – best month for tourism,

• Sand beaches, dunes, plains and forests,

• Curonean spit – a unique natural object.

• A long but narrow peninsular, the width is 400 m - 3,5 кm, length – 98 кm.

• more than 60% of territory covered with forests,

• Valdai national park, 111 natural memorials.

The city of Novgorod

• Known since the year 862, was the second in the Kiev Rus state. Kremlin with Sofia temple, churches and monasteries, the monument to 1000th anniversary of Russia, others.

• The center of Novgorod is in UNESCO heritage list.
