In Luke 6:46-49, Jesus says, 46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47As for those who come to me and hear my words and put them into practice, I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But those who hear my words and do not put them into practice are like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
Obviously, to Jesus our words and actions do matter. How we treat people, the language we use, the tone and inflection matter tremendously to him. In February of 1999, our family took a vacation to Disney World in Florida. It was the first and only time that I have ever been.
One of the things that struck me most while we were there was the politeness of the people. Except for a few instances, everywhere we went the people at Disney were so helpful and so nice to us. They never seemed to mind tourist asking them directions to the next show or the nearest restroom. They always answered in a tone of voice that said, “We are glad you are here. How can we help?”
I began to wonder how people really view me and how those who are our guests on Sunday morning view our church. Do I give people the impression that I care about them and that I am here to help them? Or do I give people the impression that being a Christian is just another job that I kind of want to do? Am I kind to people only on Sunday or am I kind throughout the week? Through my actions, do I give people directions to God?
How about our church, do we give people directions to God through our ministries and missions, our Sunday Schools, our actions, and our words? How do those who visit our church view us? Are we a place that cares for them, that truly wants to reach out to them where they are? Or do we expect them to be like us and where we are in our faith journey?
These are interesting questions for us to consider as we begin to act and serve more like our Savior, Jesus Christ. I pray that these questions will help each of us and our church as we continue to grow in our faith and service to God, and our service to others. See you Sunday. In Christ, Allan

OUR NEWSMAKERS -
The Randolph County newspaper of August 16, 2019 featured the new Randolph County School System teachers with a color photo and the names of the 36 new teachers and the schools they were assigned. Jessica Krpejs was pictured as she is a first year teacher at John Lawrence Elementary School.
The Randolph County newspaper of September 6, 2019 contained a color photo of the Randolph Community College expanded Welding Lab ribbon cutting. Bert Lance Stone (Mayor of Archdale) was a participant in the ribbon cutting ceremony. This expansion is at the Archdale Center.
The High Point Enterprise of September 16, 2019 covered the groundbreaking for the Trinity Middle School. The color photograph included Elizabeth Aldridge as she was thanked for the land she and her late husband, Bill Aldridge donated more than 20 years ago.
We heard the good news in the 9am Worship Service, September 22, 2019, the High Point Rah-Rahs won gold at the Seniors Games in Raleigh. This is a cheerleading and dance group of 14 ladies over the age of 60 who perform at various games, functions and for groups. Our own, Sally Hord, is one of the Rah-Rahs. Congratulations!
Hello Everyone! Preparations for this year’s Pumpkin Patch are well underway. We plan to have our GRAND OPENING on Saturday, October 5th. The Pumpkin Patch is a huge outreach opportunity for our church and our community. We hope to make
every individual and family that visits the Pumpkin Patch aware that we care about our community and have a purpose to make disciples for Christ.
Thank you to everyone who helped round up pallets for us to use in the patch. We will cover these with straw and place the pump-
kins on the straw. We also plan to arrange pumpkins by size in the pumpkin patch this year to help keep things more organized.
Patch needs:
In addition to everyone's prayers for this HUGE Community Outreach opportunity, volun-teers to work the patch is our BIGGEST NEED at this point! There are a total of 124 volunteer slots to fill the entire patch schedule. Everyone knows how important this out-reach opportunity is and the time has come for everyone to sign up for a time slot or
two! The time slots for the patch are listed below:
Saturday: 10:00 - 1:00, 1:00 - 4:00, and 4:00 - 7:00 Sunday: 1:00 - 3:00, 3:00 - 5:00, and 5:00 - 7:00 Monday-Friday: 3:00 - 5:00, and 5:00 - 7:00
Ideally, we need to have 2 individuals or one big group volunteer to fill each slot so that no one is covering the patch by themselves. Please sign up using the following link or contact the church office to sign up for your volunteer slot!

We have tried to stream line the Pumpkin Patch Sitting responsibilities this year so we are hoping it is easier than it has ever been! Please do not worry about no knowing what to do. Instructions will be available for you to use as you work the slots you sign up. The volunteer link is also available on the Pumpkin Patch, AUMC, and AUMC Youth and Kid's Facebook Page. Please find the link on Facebook and SHARE with everyone to help adver-tise the Pumpkin Patch. If you have any questions please contact Cory at: cabentle10@gmail.com or (336) 259-6424
ATTN UMW :
AUMW will be making apple pies on Monday, October 14 at 9am. We need to peel two boxes on Sunday, October 13 beginning at 4pm

All help will be appreciated.
Homecoming, October 27th, 2019
Sunday School will start at 9:30am, Worship Service will start at 10:45am with
Rev. Dr. Al Ward as our Guest Preacher
