1.INTRODUCTION OF WII
The WII is a video game console made by Nintendo. It first came out on
November 19, 2006 in North America. It plays video games made for the WII
and the Nintendo GameCube. As a seventh-generation console, the WII
primarily competes with Microsoft's Xbox 360 & play -station 3.Nintendo, the
company that made the WII, says they want to focus more on new ways to
play games. The WII uses a controller, called the WII Remote , that is very
different from the controllers of other video game consoles. It can be held with just one hand, and uses technology that senses the player's movements.
By making the WII, Nintendo says they are trying to change the way
video games are looked at and played. The WII was made for all people of any
age or interest. By making it easier to play, Nintendo thinks that they can get
people who do not normally play games to start playing. As of October 2010,
the WII leads the generation over the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in
worldwide sales, and in December 2009 broke the record for best-selling
console in a single month in the United States.
WII already has a strong lineup of games in production, with many more
to follow. Familiar characters like Mario and Link will make appearances, as
well as new franchises. Instead of just focusing on better graphics like their
rivals, Nintendo are focused on delivering an improved, fun playing
experience with better interactivity. The WII will also retail at a much lower
price than the other consoles. All in all the WII is an exciting breakthrough in
gaming.

2.MOTION SENSING
This is the one type of technology which is used in the WII. Motion can be
detected by: sound, reflection of transmitted energy & vibration. motion
detectors, have sensors that detect movement & send a signal to a sound device
that produces an alarm or switch on an image recording device. There are
motion detectors has cameras connected to a computer which stores and
manages captured images. A simple calculation for motion detection by a fixed
camera compares the current image with a reference image and simply counts
the number of different pixels. Since images will naturally differ to reference
image it knows something is changed.
A forum, "2010 Motion Sensing Technology," was organized by
Digitimes and sponsored by Epson on September 16, 2010 to discuss the
growing market for motion sensors and their new applications. Industry
experts and academic researchers were invited to present their views of the
market and technology trends at the forum, which took place at Grand Victoria
Hotel in Taipei.
There are many types of motion sensors available in the market, mostly
used to detect changes in external conditions. In terms of detection technology
and applications, they can be divided into inertia sensors, optical sensors,
environmental sensors, pressure sensors, and so forth. Up until recently,
motion sensors have been used mainly in automotive and specialized industrial
applications. However, new applications and broader market opportunities for
motion sensors have emerged since 2006 when the devices were first utilized
in the Nintendo WII console.

3.REMOTE
REMOTE is a part of the WII gaming system. It act a important role in the
WII console system.
8/3/2019 Wii Report
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/wii-report 8/17
The WII Remote sometimes unofficially nicknamed "WII mote", is the
primary controller for Nintendo's WII console. A main feature of the WII
Remote is its motion sensing capability, which allows the user to interact with
and manipulate items on screen viagesture recognition and pointing through
the use of accelerometer and optical sensor technology. Another feature is its
expandability through the use of attachments. The attachment bundled with the
WII console is the Nunchu, which complements the WII Remote by providing
functions similar to those in gamepad controllers.
Nintendo announced a free accessory for the WII Remote the WII
Remote Jacket, on October 1, 2007. The removable silicone sleeve wraps
around the WII Remote to provide users a better grip and cushioning. The
cushioning intends to keep the WII Remote protected in case it is accidentally
dropped or thrown. Nintendo started shipping consoles, separately-packaged
controllers, and the controller included in the game WII Play with the jacket on
October 15, 2007.
The WII Remote assumes a one-handed remote control-based design
instead of the traditional gamepad controllers of previous gaming consoles.
This was done to make motion sensitivity more intuitive, as a remote design is
fitted perfectly for pointing, and in part to help the console appeal to a broader
audience that includes non-gamers. The body of the WII Remote measures
148 mm (5.83 in) long, 36.2 mm (1.43 in) wide, and 30.8 mm (1.21 in) thick. The WII Remote model number is RVL-003, a reference to the project
codename "Revolution".
The controller communicates wirelessly with the console via short-
range Bluetooth radio, with which it is possible to operate up to four
controllers as far as 10 meters (approx. 30 ft) away from the console.

4.CONSOLE
It is the main processing unit of the WII gaming system. It is
based on MOTION SENSING technology.
The WII Console is a cutting-edge piece of technology in the video
game world.
8/3/2019 Wii Report
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/wii-report 10/17
The console, originally named the “Revolution”, was r enamed the
“WII” because the WII sounds like “we” which makes it a multiplayer oriented
system. The system has four wireless controllers with gyroscope technology.
Gyroscope technology is a fancy name for motion sensor technology. There
has never been a video game console that has used motion-sensor technology.
This system enables the user to actually act out the moves in the game. For
example, in a sword-fighting game the user swings the controller as if they
were swinging the sword.
The whole purpose behind the WII was to initiate the race for new
technology in the video game industry, as well as create a system in which the
individuals are actually playing the game, rather than sitting in a couch moving
only their thumbs. The main feature of the WII console is the WII remote, and
the wireless internet. . The WII console itself cannot only play single as well
as double layered WII discs, but also Game cube discs. The larger part of this
report will be written on the WII controller, as well as the sensor bar.
The controller itself has accelerometers, which according to which way
the controller is swung, activates capacitors on either side of an electric field,
which pick up the signal from the sensor bar. The WII console refers to the box
that plays the discs. The console has several different parts to it. There is an
area where the player can load either a double-layered disc, (a disc with more
information on it), and also a single layered disc. An interesting feature to the
WII is the fact that it can also play Game cube games. Essentially the system is
double compatible; it can play both WII games and Game cube games. The
system itself also has four Game cube controller ports, for multiplayer action
as well as two memory card slots for Game cube.

5.ACCELEROMETER
An accelerometer is a device that measures proper acceleration, the
acceleration experienced relative to freefall.
Single- and multi-axis models are available to detect magnitude and direction
of the acceleration as a vector quantity, and can be used to sense orientation,
acceleration, vibration shock, and falling. Micro machined accelerometers are
increasingly present in portable electronic devices and video game controllers,
to detect the position of the device or provide for game input.
An accelerometer measures proper acceleration, which is the
acceleration it experiences relative to freefall and is the acceleration felt by
people and objects.

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/wii-report 12/17
Put another way, at any point in space time the equivalence
principle guarantees the existence of a local inertial frame, and an
accelerometer measures the acceleration relative to that frame. Such
accelerations are popularly measured in terms of g-force.
An accelerometer at rest relative to the Earth's surface will indicate
approximately 1 g upwards, because any point on the Earth's surface is
accelerating upwards relative to the local inertial frame (the frame of a freely
falling object near the surface). To obtain the acceleration due to motion with
respect to the Earth, this "gravity offset" must be subtracted and corrections for
effects caused by the Earth's rotation relative to the inertial frame. The reason
for the appearance of a gravitational offset is Einstein's equivalence
principle, which states that the effects of gravity on an object are
indistinguishable from acceleration.
When held fixed in a gravitational field by, for example, applying a
ground reaction force or an equivalent upward thrust, the reference frame for
an accelerometer (its own casing) accelerates upwards with respect to a free-
falling reference frame. The effects of this acceleration are indistinguishable
from any other acceleration experienced by the instrument, so that an
accelerometer cannot detect the difference between sitting in a rocket on the
launch pad, and being in the same rocket in deep space while it uses its engines
to accelerate at 1 g. For similar reasons, an accelerometer will read zero during
any type of free fall.
This includes use in a coasting spaceship in deep space far from any
mass, a spaceship orbiting the Earth, an airplane in a parabolic "zero-g" arc, or
any free-fall in vacuum. Another example is free-fall at a sufficiently high
altitude that atmospheric effects can be neglected.

6.SENSOR BAR
The WII Sensor bar, which is technically an array of infrared LED.The relative
movement of the infrared LED will be used for cursor position update. The
infrared camera is generally used in the SENSOR BAR. The WII sensor bar is
a device for the Nintendo WII. It detects the motions of the WII
Remote and Nunchuk via Bluetooth technology. The WII's sensor bar coupled
with the WII Remote allows the game to sense acceleration and to determine
where the player is pointing.
The WII Remote senses light projected from the bar, contrary to what a
standard light gun can perform. Five LED lights are positioned on both sides
of the sensor bar, with a total of ten in all. Because of the viewing angle of the
WII Remote, being too far away from the sensor bar will result in a disruption
and possibly disconnection.
