Tiger, Tiger, Glut und Pracht tief in

Wäldern dumpfer Nacht, welch

Unsterblicher schuf sie: Deine grause

Symmetrie? Tiger, Tiger,

burning bright in the forests of the

night, what immortal hand or eye could frame

thy fearful symmetry?

Tiger, Tiger, burning bright in the forests of the

night, what immortal hand or eye could frame

thy fearful symmetry?

In welch unermess´ner Ferne brannten deiner Augen

Sterne?

In what distant deeps or skies burnt the fire

of thine eyes?

Welche Hand besaß den Mut, zu berühren solche

Glut?

On what wings dare he aspire? What the hand dare

seize the fire?

Welcher Arm zog in Dein Herz Sehnen aus getriebnem Erz?

And what shoulder and what art could twist the sinews of

thy heart?

Als es schlug, wer hielt ihm stand? Wessen Fuß und wessen

Hand?

And when thy heart began to beat, what dread hand? And

what dread feet?

Welcher Hammer? Welche Kette? Wer zog aus der Feuerstätte dein Gehirn?

What the hammer? What the chain? In what furnace was

the brain?

Als der Sterne Licht sich senkte,

Tränenflut den Himmel tränkte,

freute ER des Werkes sich? Der das Lamm schuf, schuf ER dich?

When the stars threw down their

spears and watered Heaven with their tears,

did HE smile his work to see?

Did HE who made the Lamp make

thee?

tief in Wäldern dumpfer Nacht,

In the forests of the night,
