“Willing to be a sacrifice”:

ISAAC AND JESUS on MT MORIAH

Abraham and Isaac

Isaac was the son of PROMISE

- He had to wait a long time for Isaac to be born, and all God’s

promises for the MESSIAH hinged on

him being alive.

Abraham LOVED Isaac- now a young

man 25-35

Told to take Isaac up onto Mt Moriah and

offer him as a BURNT sacrifice. Understand: God never intended

Isaac to DIE.

God was TESTING Abraham to see if he

really loved God most. (Gen 22:1) This was not his first test,

but was the TOUGHEST!

Abraham did not object or question or hesitate or whine. He

OBEYED God, because he TRUSTED

God

He took Isaac to Mt. Moriah

He told his servants that they would RETURN. (22:5)

Isaac carried

the WOOD on his back

Abraham carried the fire and the knife

(symbols of sacrifice and judgment)

Isaac asked

where the LAMB was.

Abraham said God Himself would

provide it.

He prepared an altar

He bound Isaac

and laid him on

the altar

Isaac SUBMITTED to his father; he

could have resisted.

Abraham considered his son “as DEAD” for

3 days, but he believed God’s could raise him from the dead if necessary (Heb. 11:19) He passed the test

When Abraham raised the knife (22:10) the

Angel of the Lord STOPPED him and provided a RAM

(22:13) as a substitute- to die and

shed its blood.

The ram was caught in a thicket of

THORNS.

Isaac escaped death.

Abraham called the place Jehovah-Jireh-

(The Lord will provide). God saw his

need and provided the ram.

2000 years later in time,

God the Father sent His only

beloved Son to die for our sins on Mt. Moriah

Jesus was the PROMISED Messiah

He was LOVED by the Father John 10:17-18

He didn’t SPARE his son. Rom. 8:31-32

He climbed Mt. Moriah

He carried TIMBER of the cross on his back

He willingly SUBMITTED to the

Father’s plan: “Thy will be done.”

He laid down his life as a SACRIFICE, the Lamb

of God as our substitute.

He wore a crown of THORNS on his head.

His blood was the perfect

atonement and took away our

sins

He lay in a tomb for THREE days

He rose from the dead on the third day in victory over death.

God has painted a picture of our

Messiah-Savior in the story of the offering of Isaac. It is a prophecy

of the supreme sacrifice which was

given for all mankind.

Messiah Jesus was willing to suffer, bleed and die for you and

me today.

God calls on his followers to be

TOTALLY DEDICATED to Him.

Romans 12:1-2

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Don’t be CONFORMED to this world. Be SET

APART- HOLY,

Be TRANSFORMED by the renewing of your mind- changed from

the inside out.

WHY? Because of His

MERCY.Rom. 12:1
