Definition of wireless communication technology

Wireless communication is among technology’s biggest contributions to mankind. Wireless communication involves the transmission of information over a distance without help of wires, cables or any other forms of electrical conductors. The transmitted distance can be anywhere between a few meters (for example, a television’s remote control) and thousands of kilometers (for example, radio communication).

Types of Wireless Communication

The different types of wireless communication mainly include, Infrared (IR) wireless communication.satellite communication.broadcast radio communication system.Microwave wireless communication. Wi-Fi & Bluetooth.

Infrared (IR) wireless communication

Infrared band of the electromagnet corresponds to 430THz to 300GHz and a wavelength of 980nm. The propagation of light waves in this band can be used for a communication system (for transmission and reception) of data. This communication can be between two portable devices or between a portable device and a fixed device.

Satellite communicationA communication satellite is an artificial satellite used specifically as a communication transmitter/receiver in orbit. It behaves like a radio relay station above the earth to receive, amplify, and redirect analog and digital signals carried on a specific radio frequency.

Advances in satellite technology have given rise to a healthy satellite services sector that provides various services that satellites provide: telecommunications, broadcasting, and data communications. US launched the first GEO satellite, Relay-1 in 1962.

Satellite communication

Satellite communication

broadcast radio communication systemBasically an audio broadcasting service, radio broadcasts sound through the air as radio waves. It uses a transmitter to transmit radio waves to a receiving antenna. Radio broadcasting can also be done via cable FM, the internet and satellites. A radio broadcast sends data over long distances (across countries) at up to 2 megabits per second (AM/FM Radio).

Microwave wireless communication

Microwave transmission involves the transfer of voice and data through the atmosphere as super high-frequency radio waves called microwaves. Microwave transmission is mainly used to transmit messages between ground-based stations and satellite communications systems.

Microwave wireless communication

Wi-Fi & BluetoothWi-Fi: Wi-Fi is a popular wireless networking technology. Wi-Fi stands for “wireless fidelity”. The Wi-Fi was invented by NCR corporation/AT&T in Netherlands in 1991. By using this technology we can exchange the information between two or more devices.

Wi-Fi & Bluetooth

Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances (using short-wavelength UHF radio waves) between two device for personal area network. Invented by telecom vendor Ericsson in 1994.For example mobile Bluetooth headphone.

Applications of wireless communication

Television Remote Control – Modern televisions use wireless remote control. Currently radio waves are also used.Wi-Fi – This is a wireless local area network that establishes internet connection with the portable computers. Security systems – For homes and office buildings, hard wired implementation security systems are replaced by the Wireless technology. Cellular Telephone – Radio waves are used to facilitate the operator to make phone calls from any place on the earth. GSM, and 3G are examples of the advancement made by wireless communication in the world.Wireless energy transfer – A process where a power source transmits electrical energy to electrical load which does not have built-in power source wirelessly

Applications of wireless communication

Computer Interface Devices – Computer hardware manufacturers had realized that having so many wires to communicate between devices would confuse the consumer. So they switched to wireless technology to facilitate their consumers, thus making it easy to mediate between a computer and other peripherals including mouse and keyboard.

Limitation of wireless communication

When the wireless signals are transferred sometime signal are blocked by the certain obstacles as walls, gates and other material.

wireless technology does not provide the same bandwidth guarantees as a wired connection; in fact the bandwidth is substantially more limited than a wired connection, and is additionally shared with other users who are connected to the same access point. so user sometime not get original data information.

Advantage of wireless communication

Flexibility: The internet can be accessed from anywhere without any wire connection.Easy to use: we can setup and connected device easily also transfer data & information. Any data or information can be transmitted faster and with a high speedMaintenance and installation is less cost for these networks.More user supported - cable device have limited slots whereas wireless does not.

Disadvantage of wireless communication

An unauthorized person can easily capture the wireless signals which  spread through the air.

Wi-Fi generates radiations which can harm the human health.

There are some limits to transfer the data, we cant able to transfer the data for long distance.

Wi-Fi implementation is very expensive when compared to the wired connection.

Overall overcome of wireless communication system.

Wireless communication is play a major role in the world wide communication. now a day we can not think without wireless communication so it is very important in our modern society. For example, Doctors will be able to monitor and handling his patients who are thousands of miles using by wireless communication.

Thank You All
