I use the wide angle lens to photography. And thisimage is for visitor in this exhibition, and they takephoto for those Egypt mummy, and talk about then.
This event is for Egypt mummy exhibition in Manchestermuseum. This image is for what was happening.
Edinburgh is a city that just begs to be explored, so I will do a very detailed travel planning before starting
shoot, it will include travel routed, and some very
special places in Edinburgh, like Craigmillar Castle,
Calton Hill, Dean Village etc. Therefore, the place
project will talk a story about travel in Edinburgh
during six hours in one day, I will take some photo during six hours in one day, I will take some photo
of landscape, and some will about the construct
from building, and people living in that city, and
so on. Overall, I want to present completed features
of this place.
For person project, I have a few thoughts. Because this assignment need we finish within a six-hour slot,
so I combine knowledge from other disciplines, I want so I combine knowledge from other disciplines, I want
do this shoot like include interview, I will find a person
in Scotland, and do a interview to her/his, and take
photo for the person during six hours, it can be record
the person working, or daily life.
The last one is ‘event’ project, I think it is the most difficult one in this assignment. To make this part
also related to the other projects, I have been do
many network to looking for recent events in Scotland,
like exhibitions, opera, fashion show, sporting activities.
Finally, because the limitation of the time and the place,
I narrowed the range of choice, I selected a few activities I narrowed the range of choice, I selected a few activities
as the subject, because I don’t know the local situation,
so if an accident occurred, there are other choice.
Before wring the pitch, I have talked with Mike, he told me the Scottish whiskey is very good so that I can go to
some small wine factory to shooting, such as Speyside
distillery (http://www.speysidedistillery.co.uk/index.php ).
Therefore, I not only can shoot for ‘place’, I can also take
photo for the daily work of staff. But this requires contact
with the factory, it is full of variables. Anyway, my idea willwith the factory, it is full of variables. Anyway, my idea will
follow that, so maybe this project is very personal. Totally,
I will be looking for a scotch and to record six hour of his
/her daily life.
I will talk about two narrative photographers as my influence. The two narrative photographers, their all
photos have strong narrative and strong control in
color / black & white.
TWO NARRATIVE PHOTOGRAPHERS
I choose Alex Webb and Sohrab Hura to do this research,
because they represent two ways of narrative photography.
Alex Webb is a master of cutting and manufacturing space,
and the color for his images is so strong and contrasting. He
had taken shoot for many subjects and the camera like his
eyes.Others, Sohrab Hura is not very well-known photographer,
but I will moved by his work every time. This time, his work—but I will moved by his work every time. This time, his work—
‘Life in elsewhere’, it is very personal subject, this group of
black and white works are full of sadness and sensitive, the
photographer use photos and diary to tell his own stories of
mothers with schizophrenia. Anyway, it is also a way to do
narrative photography. The others I do not quote in my pitch,
like Steve McCurry, his style of photography also like Alex Webb,
but for me, I choose Alex webb because of his well-known set but for me, I choose Alex webb because of his well-known set
of images taken in Istanbul, 《Istanbul, City of a Hundred
Names 》, it is like travel photography, I will also use this style
in my 3×36 assignment.
I will talk about two narrative photographers as my influence. The two narrative photographers, their all
photos have strong narrative and strong control in
color / black & white.
TWO NARRATIVE PHOTOGRAPHERS
The photographer, for his life I do not really know more, because he is not very famous in this world. However, his photos have
shocked me. ‘Life in elsewhere’is a private project shoots by
Sohrab Hura. In this group of black and white works are full of
sadness and sensitive, the photographer use photos and diary to
tell his own stories of mothers with schizophrenia, this work is
also one of this year's finalists in Magnum Expression Award.also one of this year's finalists in Magnum Expression Award.
Sohrab Hura was born in 1981 in India and studies for a master degree in economics at the Delhi School. Although he has no
formal training in photography, he's been photographing since
2001. Sohrab Hura focus on India’ economy, and take photos
for land, the city, and the people. His work —— ‘Land of a
Thousand Struggles’ depicts the harsh realities of the rich-poor
divide in India. While we witness high rises growing rapidly in divide in India. While we witness high rises growing rapidly in
the major cities, many live below the poverty line, often working
for less than minimum wage and under absurd conditions.
Sohrab Hura
Many of his works focus on poor people and their miserable life, and all photos are black & white, he has a strong control
for using the film. For the color, the composition of images,
the photos are full of his style. For ‘life in elsewhere‘, this
work is a very personal documentary, this is also characteristics
of it. He used camera to analysis inside of his most secret
feelings, shooting trivial things to show the life.feelings, shooting trivial things to show the life.
He says,” It was in the summer of 1999 when my mother was diagnosed with an acute case of Paranoid Schizophrenia. I
was 17 then. The doctors, in retrospect, had said that she had
already started developing the symptoms many years prior to
that. Symptoms that nobody had noticed. But it was the break
up with my father that caused her condition to suddenly come
alive and then deteriorate. Over the years, the walls of our home alive and then deteriorate. Over the years, the walls of our home
started to peel off, people had stopped coming to our home
because my mother was too scared to let anybody in and all that
remained were the traces of a life that no longer existed. Our
initial years were spent hiding from the world. Her out of
paranoia and mine out of embarrassment and anger at who she
had become. But after all these years I’ve realized that my
mother had never stopped loving me.”mother had never stopped loving me.”
