Where’s the grammar?!?

Where are the translations?!?

Where are the long vocabulary lists?!?

A Little Background Information

The College Board changed all World Language programs and tests, adopting six global themes. Those themes and the (relatively) new test formats more closely align with the International Baccalaureate program and tests.

What do the AP programs have to do with levels I-IV?

Ohio was profiled in the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages publication, The Language Educator, for its leadership in proficiency-based, communicative language teaching.

1. Comprehensible input in the target language at all levels

“Comprehensible input is language input that can be understood by listeners despite them not understanding all the words and structures in it. It is described as one level above that of the learners if it can only just be understood.”

2. Integrated Performance Assessments (IPAs) as

summative assessments

(Combine interpretive, interpersonal, and/or

presentational skills in one assessment, preferably using authentic sources)

3. Student portfolios to show student growth

1. “I Can Statements” from ACTFL at the beginning and end of the year

2. RUBRICS!!!!

3. Tests and quizzes

4. Writing samples

5. Samples of students’ best work (posters, presentations, etc.)

• They follow students from year to year and teacher to teacher.

• They are what the Ohio Department of Education recommends districts use as the student growth portion of the OTES.

As a business executive and former expat, I see huge differences between children and young adults with a global perspective and those without it—differences in conceptual capacity, world view, broad thinking, and openness to diverse experiences and people. Having a global mindset is a major competitive advantage for young adults entering the workforce.”– Diane Gulyas, President of DuPont Performance Polymers - See more at: http://www.actfl.org/publications/books-and-brochures/raising-global-children#sthash.ycOhzP7q.dpuf

““Northwest Ohio is a prime area for

foreign direct investment opportunities. “In

2013, more than 3,500 jobs were created

as a result of foreign direct investment in

Northwest Ohio” (Zito.) A centralized

location allows access to 75% of the U.S.

population, or 100 million people, within a

10 hour drive.”
