Some Simple Guidelines To Refine Your Educational Essays Essays are essentially easy to write. However, if you don’t know the foundations of essay writing, it will be a very hard task indeed. You can do absolutely fantastic research and analysis, but if it isn’t presented in a proper way, a lot of effort will be wasted. A good essay might even indicate gaps in your research that might need to be filled. The best way to make sure that you are doing your essay justice is to structure it properly. Follow a few guidelines to create a well written essay

1. Structure Your Essay

Many students just start writing and hope it will go somewhere. On the other hand, some students are lyrical to the point that they completely leave the topic behind. It is important to write paragraphs that are sentence driven. Each word that you use must propel your argument further, instead of simply reiterating a point again and again. The first sentence of every paragraph, the topic sentence, should support the general thesis of your essay. The rest of your paragraph in turn should support your topic sentences with facts and analysis. 2. Write the Body First Don’t get too hung up on writing the perfect introduction. Your thoughts will gain greater clarity as you write. You might even want to modify your thesis. After you’ve written the majority of your analysis and have concluded it, then write your introductory paragraph. The introduction and conclusion are two “bookends” that reiterate the same point to the reader.

3. Move from General To Specific A lot of students simply discuss the general information available. As you select a topic think- What subject would practically write assignment for me. That means it should have enough specific examples and data that will support the general statements you write. Your main point needs to be supported by explicit reasons as to why the reader should agree with your analysis. These reasons should collaborate with each other and arrive naturally at a particular conclusion. 4. Address the “So What?” There is no point to your essay if it doesn’t reveal a truth that is valuable. A good essay will delve into context, reveal hidden meanings and identify how those meanings are reinforced in our daily lives. You must analyze something that is taken for granted and present it in such a

way that your readers question their approach to the topic. They might or might not agree with you. Your essay must be debatable instead of simply regurgitating facts.
