write this article in a time when we are juggling “the
knowns” and “the unknowns.”
We know some things.
Most of all that God has made us His own and sent His
Son to be our Savior!
the Holy Spirit has been at work to plant and nurture
this faith in us since we can actually say that “Jesus is our Lord
and Savior” and really mean it. We could not do that if the Holy
Spirit had not been at work in our lives.
that this Gospel is the most precious and exciting news
ever. It is ours to hold and to treasure. It is what God has asked us
to tell everyone we meet by how we think, how we act, and how
we live.
that God has placed His mission among the people He
gathered in east Edmonton and in the course of time His mission
has come into our hands in 2019. Many Pastors and many
people have served in this mission for decades and generations
before us.
that we
cannot do any good in
this mission without
God’s guidance and
blessing. Without His
Word to guide us and
His Sacraments to
bless us we cannot do what God is asking of us. Left to ourselves
we will wander off into places that will most certainly break God’s
heart and bring delight to Satan.
that God has sent Pastor Scott Lyons to guide and to
coach us in God’s mission. that God has promised to be
with Pastor Lyons and help him preach His Word and teach His
ways.
We don’t know some things.
where this new leadership will take us except that
God will hold us firmly in His hands as we go there and to that.
what ways God has in mind for us to serve Him
best. There may be new ways we have never considered. There
may be old ways that we will need to get back to. (1 Corinthians
12:1–13:13)
what the years to come will look like, what people
God will bring among us in this mission, how we will be asked to
give and take in service to God’s call.

Annette Kaminsky, Bethlehem Preschool Administrator and Teacher
Happy New Year to everyone in our congregation! May you all be
richly blessed in this coming year.
Thank you for your generous Christmas gift. It was much
appreciated!
In the beginning of January we
did activities about the New
Year. We also started a theme
about Snowmen. We read
storybooks such as
“Snowballs” by Lois Ehlert,
and the singing story “Frosty
the Snowman.” We drew and
painted snowmen, counted
them, and did mazes about them. We molded snowmen with
playdough, decorated magnetic snowmen, and played in a
snowman themed water table. We acted out poems about
building snowmen and melting ones, and threw “snowballs” at a
picture of a giant snowman. Many songs, finger-plays and action
rhymes accompanied this theme.
Next we started an Inuits
Long Ago Canadian
history theme. Our topics
were Inuit homes,
clothing, food, hunting,
and music. We did
activities about animals
that live in northern
Canada, i.e. polar bears, caribou, walruses, seals and narwhals.
Some feature activities were observing melted snow, making a
string painted northern lights picture, and playing games such as
blanket toss and feather toss. We played with Inuit animal and
people sets, and an igloo dramatic centre. We did activities with
drums and finger fans.
Our alphabet letters were letter
M/Mimi Mermaid (and
mittens), letter S/Sadie Seal
(and snow), and letter
I/Ichabod Ichthyosaurus (and
igloo).
In devotions we thanked God
for the New Year. We learned
that we are made in God’s image, and that we are one of a kind.
We read Bible stories about parables Jesus told, i.e. The Good
Samaritan, The Prodigal Son, and the Lost Sheep.
Memory Verses
(God) spreads the snow like wool and scatters the frost like ashes.
• Psalm 147:16 (NCV)
… Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as
snow …
• Isaiah 1:18 (HCSB)
On Monday, January 21 and
Tuesday, January 22, our
classes went on a field trip to
Millennium Place, Sherwood
Park. We enjoyed large motor
time in the mini gym, and had
fun playing with our friends in
a new setting.
We have room for a few more students in each class. Any child
who is three years or older and is toilet trained is welcome to join
us. If you have friends/relatives/neighbors with eligible children,
feel free to let them know. You can also a Bethlehem
Preschool Facebook post to help advertise our program.

Rev Scott Lyons, Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Thank you for your kindness and your warm welcome to me and
my family. How wonderful it is that God makes a congregation a
family through our savior Jesus Christ and therefore we have a
family reunion waiting for us in any congregation! Every Pastor
and His family can attest to the special joy in joining a new
congregation family. As I once again worship in the same pews I
had been blessed in as a child the feeling of a family reunion is
even more pronounced for me! I am excited to serve you now as
your Pastor, a role God has instituted to bless and care for you
through the gifts of word and sacrament.
I am humbled by this task since I know that God takes seriously
your spiritual care and I ask you to pray for me as I work to
faithfully carry out His good will for you. This task is not an easy
one, in fact, the only reason we can be confident this new
relationship will be a blessing to you and I is because Jesus is the
Lord of the Church. He is the head, not you or me. The Holy Spirit
calls gathers and enlightens us when and where it pleases Him
and this is comforting news, especially to a new pastor!
I am confident that God will bless us. I am excited to see how
God’s faithfulness will be seen and experienced. I am confident
because no matter what changes around us, Jesus is the same
yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)
I look forward to getting to know each of you and your families.
I am committed to meeting and visiting each of you over this next
year. I am open to listening and learning who you are and how I
can care for you. Please do not hesitate to come and introduce
yourself to me or if you have any questions or concerns I invite
you to share them. Above all, know that I am here to bring you the
gifts of God; His grace found in and through Jesus Christ. These
gifts of forgiveness and peace are not mine, they are His and they
are for you!
May God bless you all in Christ Jesus,
Pastor Lyons
Brent Graf, Executive Chairman
A new year begins. We don’t know what the year will hold. At
times, the days ahead may look terrific—full of rewarding
challenges and opportunities. Or the days may look dark—full of
obstacles, pain and loss. Life changes very suddenly with the
word from a doctor, a letter in the mail, or consequences of small
and big things alike. As people of faith, Christ calls us to live each
day conscious of God’s gracious presence. Twists and turns will
appear before us. Surprises will delight or dismay us. Whatever
comes our way, we hold on to God’s promise to be with us, to
hold us, and to give us courage. We bask in the abundance of the
Holy Spirit’s gifts—gifts like thankfulness, patience, generosity,
trust, forgiveness and joy. We lean on Christ’s Word that gives us
hope. We trust that the love of God accompanies us on all the
beautiful ascents, on all the bridges, and on all the emergency
descents our lives may take. And we strive to be Christ’s presence
in other people’s journeys, knowing God created us for this.

Find all 86 of the following EMPHASISED words. (Words appear forward, backward, up, down, diagonal, backward diagonal.)
WHAT SHALL we SAY THEN? Are we to CONTINUE in sin that GRACE
MAY ABOUND? 2 By no MEANS! HOW CAN we who died to sin STILL
live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us WHO have BEEN baptized
INTO Christ JESUS were BAPTIZED into his death? 4 We WERE BURIED
THEREFORE with HIM by BAPTISM into death, in order that, JUST as
CHRIST was raised FROM the dead by the GLORY of the FATHER, we
TOO might WALK in NEWNESS of life.
5 For if we HAVE been UNITED with him in a DEATH LIKE his, we
shall CERTAINLY be united WITH him in a RESURRECTION like HIS. 6 We know THAT our OLD SELF was CRUCIFIED with him in ORDER
that the BODY of sin MIGHT be brought to NOTHING, so that we
WOULD no LONGER be ENSLAVED to sin. 7 For ONE who has died
has been set FREE from sin. 8 Now if we have died with Christ, we
BELIEVE that we WILL also live with him. 9 We KNOW that Christ,
BEING RAISED from the DEAD, will NEVER die AGAIN; death no longer
has dominion OVER him. 10 For the death he died he DIED to sin,
ONCE for all, but the LIFE he lives he LIVES to GOD. 11 So you ALSO
MUST CONSIDER yourselves dead to SIN and ALIVE to God in Christ
Jesus.
12 Let not sin therefore REIGN in your MORTAL body, to MAKE you OBEY its PASSIONS. 13 Do not PRESENT your members to sin as instruments
for UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, BUT present YOURSELVES to God as THOSE who have been BROUGHT from death to life, and your MEMBERS to God as
INSTRUMENTS for righteousness. 14 For sin will have no DOMINION over you, since you are not under LAW but UNDER grace.
