Why a World Conference?

• Need for increased commitment for implementation – sharing of information – defining common targets and goals- future action

• Opportunity to mobilize support- nationally and internationally

Do we need a CONFERENCE? World…? Second….?? General Assembly is discussing wording- and purpose

Objectives (GA)• Conclude the Yokohama review-

updating framework on disaster reduction for 21st Century

• Identify activities and means of implementation

• Share best practices- lessons learnt in context of sustainable development
