'What could be a better message of hope and inspiration than the fact that young people are acknowledged by the UN as full partners in designing, implementing, and evaluating the policies and programmes affecting their lives? I was once sitting in the same setting as you, not sure if I could really influence policies. The Secretary-General and the UN send a clear message with my appointment that all youth can contribute and nothing for youth should be done without youth involvement.” – Ahmad Alhindawi, Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Youth, UN, Jan 2013 "Participation in public decision-making is usually limited to exercising the right to vote. Your participation in the Youth Assembly indicates otherwise. Your presence here at the UN indicates that you have taken an interest in participating in some way in making the world we share a better place for all. "We hope you will be inspired by the example of Ahmad Alhindawi who just a short time ago was participating in this Assembly and wondering whether he would ever have an opportunity to influence politics. You (too) can make important contributions” – Maher Nasser, Director of Outreach, Department of Public Information, UN, Jan 2013
