    Meditationoninevitabledeathshouldbeperformeddaily.Everydaywhenone'sbodyandmindareatpeace,oneshouldmeditateuponbeingrippedapartbyarrows,rifles,spearsandswords,beingcarriedawaybysurgingwaves,beingthrownintothemidstofagreatfire,beingstruckbylightning,beingshakentodeathbyagreatearthquake,fallingfromthousandfootcliffs,dyingofdiseaseorcommittingseppukuatthedeathofone'smaster.Andeverydaywithoutfailoneshouldconsiderhimselfasdead.

    Thereisasayingoftheelders'thatgoes,"Stepfromundertheeavesandyou'readeadman.Leavethegateandtheenemyiswaiting."Thisisnotamatterofbeingcareful.Itistoconsideroneselfasdeadbeforehand.
