Dear Our Lady of Good Counsel Learning Community,
At the end of last week I had the pleasure of working with our
Administration Team to further develop the school’s Annual
Strategic Renewal Plan. In doing so we have set goals and
targets for the 2017 school year that, as a staff and school
community, we will work hard towards to ensure that we are
providing high quality teaching and learning for all students and that all students are
progressing.
These annual goals fall under three broad strategic areas: Strengthening Catholic
Identity, Excellent Learning and Teaching and Driving Responsible and Sustainable
Stewardship. The goals we have outlined aim to strengthen current practices at OLGC
and build capacity with staff, students and parents. It is our hope that through these
goals we will continue to build on the great work of those who have gone before us,
whilst also setting the students and community up for successful and promising futures.
This week we celebrate another significant event in the
Liturgical Season with the commencement of Lent. Lent is a
period of forty days (excluding Sundays) that leads up to
Easter. Lent commences with Ash Wednesday and during
this time we take a moment to reflect in prayer and
penance. By observing Lent we acknowledge the sacrifice
that Jesus made when he withdrew to the wilderness for a
period of forty days before his crucifixion. The ashes used
on Ash Wednesday are made from the palms used at Palm Sunday masses the year
before. Throughout Lent we will continue to focus with students on fasting,
forgiveness, generosity and service. This Lent I look forward to a period of fasting and
in doing this, look to support others through service and generosity. May this season of
Lent be fulfilling for us all.
This week many students from Years 3-5
continue their sacramental journey through their
preparation for the sacraments of Confirmation,
Eucharist and Reconciliation. We look forward
to supporting these students as they continue
their faith development over the coming months.
Yours Sincerely
Nathan Haley—PRINCIPAL

CURRICULUM NEWS
Support a Reader The Support-A-Reader Program for students in Year 1 to Year 6 is going to begin this term. The program will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The aim of this program is to give children who need additional assistance with their reading, the opportunity to read regularly with a supportive adult on a one-to-one basis. We would like to invite parents to volunteer to be involved in this very valuable program. A commitment of one hour per week or more would be required. Full training will be given. The success of the program relies on the generosity of our volunteers. For further information or if you are interested in being a part of this program, please speak to or email Fiona Drew at fcoonan@bne.catholic.edu.au.

FROM THE PARISH 8th Sunday Ordinary Time 26 February 2017 Year A
It is a part of human nature to worry; be it about health, finances, family, and relationships. Worry can be insidious and may interfere with our lives in ways that are disruptive and distressing. Researchers have argued that individuals who worry do so as a result of a reduced ability to tolerate uncertainty. Today’s scripture passages are all about the proposition that God loves you with a love beyond anything that you can comprehend. He loves you with an everlasting love that knows no limits. He loves you with a love so deep that you will never understand it. The danger to our hearts and to our eternal life with God in heaven lies in our ensnarement in the values of this world – power, wealth, fame, pleasures, and the glitter of this world’s treasures, treasures that are by no means safe and secure in our hands. Setting our hearts on them means that we are not setting our hearts on what is truly lasting and of great value. God is always present to us waiting for us to be with Him. How have we in turn been present to Him? We can spend some quality time alone with God reflecting on what has happened in our lives and where we have experienced His love. Times of just being with Him are times of deep, intimate prayer. Jesus invites us to sort out our value system: “Set your hearts on his kingdom first” (Mt. 6:33). Let the values of God’s kingdom may inspire and lead our ways! Don’t worry! Best wishes! Fr. Noyichan MCBS
Head Lice Head lice are on the move again! We urge you all to check your childrens hair for any signs of
unwelcome guests. If you find lice on your children please do not send them to school unless they have been treated and cleared.
MOSQUITOES
We have been getting quite a lot of reports of children getting bitten by mosquitoes. In an attempt to reduce the amount of bites and disruptions to classes during the day, we would ask that you apply repellent to your children before sending them to school.
