2009 Target: Youth Engagement

• Focus prevention in Freshman Building• Establish a Youth Coalition

Freshman Building: What did we do?

• Freshman Youth Summit (FYS)• Peer Helper dedicated to work on a project

out of FYS (new practice) each year.

Youth Coalition: How?

• Merged different youth groups together to form Youth Coalition.

Projects they do:

• Lead FYS• Environmental Scans• Social norms campaigns• Tulip Project: Plant the Promise

• Change Agents Fenced in around bleachers Camera in Village Green

• Letter writing Elementary students write a letter to high school to be safe at

prom and graduation Letters to stores

• Peer Mentoring• Community Presentations and trainings

Challenges

• Communication• Setting up meetings• Time Consuming• Peers are using within the group

Outcomes

• Increase in Peer Disapproval (look at slide 4)• Decrease in monthly usage by grade• Increased youth engagement from 1 to 30 on

a monthly basis.
