General Course Description HCA 347-International Comparative Health Systems

• This course is designed to offer students with an interest in global health care- systems and intervention, an interactive experience of the rehabilitation process within the Tanzanian healthcare system. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and its affiliates, the students will learn about the structure of the Tanzanian system, access and distribution of human resources, and the narrative of the growing role of the client in healthcare delivery. Collaborative and applied learning environments will be created where students will be teamed up with their Tanzanian counterparts in roundtable discussions and site visits to learn, compare, and share experience in health care. Field visits will be made to Mnazi Mmoja Hospital, Zanzibar’s largest public hospital, and to internationally funded health care projects in order to promote understanding of health care priorities and practical possibilities within delivery and management practices, with a view to East African culture and global health priorities.
