Dear member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church,

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A PROSPEROUS 2021!

Some years back, I picked up a paper with an inscription, “I thank God for all my challenges both good and bad because through them, I have been transformed into a better person”. The year 2020 has not been a very easy one. It is a year that will not be forgotten so easily. I do not even know how to describe it: Do I call it a year of terror, a year of panic, and a year filled with anxiety? Do I describe it as a year when the world halted, and its inhabitants were brought down to their knees? Do I write about a year when everything, including life and the economy, was locked down and grounded? A year when schools, churches, recreation centers, malls, and practically everything were closed? A year when human lives were threatened? Over 300,000 people lost their lives from one single cause in America – the infamous COVID-19 and its disastrous consequences.

The year 2020 was full of uncertainties. Today, humans are learning a new norm of no handshaking, no hugs. We greet each other 6 feet apart in a bid to be safe. Face masks have become part of our dress code! No singing in churches, no missalettes, no collection baskets, no human contact. If you are alive today, and reading this message, then, you are a survivor, and we pray to God to help us cross-over to 2021, the year of grace. As it is, some of us might have lost a beloved one, others lost their jobs, some are still gripped with fear and anxiety. Some cannot come back to the Church. I do think we can still say thanks be to God for all the challenges and experiences both good and bad because they have helped us to recognize that without God, we are absolutely nothing! We have all the reasons to be grateful notwithstanding the negative effects of COVID-19. I would like to share with you some positive transformations and the good news that we experienced in 2020:

1. One of the greatest amazing, good news is that we are alive! Being alive today is a blessing. 2. During the lockdown, we upgraded and enhanced our audio/visual technologies for live streaming our

celebrations. We live-streamed (and are still live streaming) 2 Masses daily through Facebook and now on YouTube and so many participated and worshipped Our Lord from their proper homes.

3. In 2020, we had 106 children who received their First Holy Communion; 42 received the sacrament of Confirmation, while 54 children were baptized.

4. I witnessed significant growth in faith as a lot of parishioners worshipped and followed up with parish activities via Facebook and YouTube. Our people were yearning for God and overcoming fears! Today, more people are coming to Church! Praise the Lord!

5. Our Parishioners and Parish Organizations are now taking advantage of social media for meetings and retreats. Over 800 people participated in our virtual Advent Mission. Out of 5,712 people that attended masses last October, 3,715 were virtual, and about 180 attend daily masses online.

6. Despite shivering economic situations, our parishioners go extra mile to support our Church, our Family, and our Home!

7. We installed a brand new and upgraded Air-condition unit for the Church. 8. We had a successful iGiveCatholic Campaign, and we are looking forward to installing drop-down monitors to

aid our worship. As your Pastor, I would like to thank God for you! I am so grateful to God for Corpus Christi Catholic Community. I doff my hat to you! In these critical times of economic downturn, you have been generously supporting the parish and sending in your contributions. Thank you! We thank God for all the challenges, and experiences we had in 2020, and we ask for a graceful and hope-filled 2021. On behalf of my brother Priests, Frs. Kenny, and Malachy, and in union with the Claretian Missionaries, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2021. Long live Corpus Christi! Looking forward to abundant blessings in the New Year, 2021.

Queridos familia del Corpus Christi, ¡FELIZ NAVIDAD Y UN PROSPERO 2021!

Hace algunos años, encontré un periódico con una inscripción: “Doy gracias a Dios por todas mis pruebas, y que

gracias a ellas me he transformado en una mejor persona”. El año 2020 no ha sido muy fácil. Es un año que no se olvidará tan fácilmente. Ni siquiera sé cómo describirlo: ¿lo llamo un año de terror, un año de pánico y un año lleno de ansiedad? ¿Lo describo como un año en el que el mundo se detuvo y sus habitantes cayeron de rodillas? ¿Escribo sobre un año en el que todo, incluida la vida y la economía, estuvo bloqueado y paralizado? ¿Un año en el que cerraron escuelas, iglesias, centros de recreación, malls y prácticamente todo? ¡Un año en el que la vida humana estaba amenazada! Más de 300.000 personas perdieron la vida por una sola causa en Estados Unidos: el infame COVID-19 y sus desastrosas consecuencias.

El año 2020 estuvo lleno de incertidumbres. Hoy, los humanos están aprendiendo unas nuevas normas de no dar las manos ni abrazos. Nos saludamos a 6 pies de distancia en un intento por estar seguros. ¡Las mascarillas se han convertido en parte de nuestro código de vestimenta! Sin cantar en las iglesias, sin misaletas, sin canastas de ofrenda, sin contacto humano, etc. Si estás vivo hoy y estás leyendo este mensaje, entonces eres un sobreviviente, y rogamos a Dios que nos ayude a cruzar al 2021, el año de gracia. Tal como están las cosas, algunos de nosotros podríamos haber perdido a un ser querido, otros perdieron sus trabajos, algunos todavía están presos del miedo y la ansiedad. Algunos no pueden volver a la Iglesia. Creo que aún podemos decir gracias a Dios por todos los desafíos y experiencias, tanto buenas como malas, porque nos han ayudado a reconocer que, sin Dios, ¡no somos absolutamente nada!

Tenemos todas las razones para estar agradecidos a pesar de los efectos negativos del COVID-19. Me gustaría compartir con ustedes algunas buenas noticias que vivimos en 2020:

1. ¡Una de las mejores y más asombrosas noticias es que estamos vivos! Estar vivo hoy y leyendo este mensaje es una bendición.

2. Durante esta época de Covid-19, actualizamos y mejoramos nuestras tecnologías audiovisuales para transmitir en vivo nuestras celebraciones. Transmitimos en vivo (y seguimos transmitiendo) 2 misas diarias a través de Facebook y ahora en YouTube y muchos participaron y adoraron a Nuestro Señor desde sus propios hogares.

3. En 2020, tuvimos 106 niños que recibieron su Primera Comunión; 42 recibieron el sacramento de la Confirmación, mientras que 54 niños fueron bautizados.

4. Fui testigo de un crecimiento significativo en la fe a medida que muchos feligreses adoraban y seguían las actividades de la parroquia a través de Facebook y YouTube. ¡Nuestra gente anhelaba a Dios y vencía los miedos! ¡Hoy, más personas vienen a la Iglesia! ¡Alabado sea el Señor!

ayudar en nuestra adoración. Como su Pastor, me gustaría agradecer a Dios por ustedes. Estoy muy agradecido con Dios por la comunidad

católica de Corpus Christi. ¡Me quito el sombrero por ustedes! En estos tiempos críticos de recesión económica, han estado apoyando generosamente a la parroquia y enviando sus contribuciones. ¡Gracias!

Agradecemos a Dios por todos los desafíos y experiencias que tuvimos en 2020, y pedimos un 2021 lleno de gracia y esperanza.
