AMS Elections Administrator: Halla Bertrand

The Alma Mater Society (AMS) ran an election on Simply Voting on Monday, March 11, 2019 at

12:01 am through Friday, March 15, 2019 at 5:00 pm. The full unofficial results are as stated

below. These results will become official upon presentation to AMS Council on March 27, 2019,

and will be subsequently published on amsvoting.as.it.ubc.ca. The AMS has a total of 57,148

electors, and 12,383 of those electors voted, resulting in a 21.7% turnout rate. The initial

viewing of the results was done by Halla Bertrand, Elections Administrator, and Madeleine

Gustavson, Chief Returning Officer per AMS Code, AMS Code Section IX, 1.C.m.and section

IX.7.2.c. The partial unofficial results were presented by Halla Bertrand on March 15, 2019.

Votes for AMS Executive positions are counted using the Condorcet method, while all other are

counted using plurality. For all referenda, the question must receive more ‘yes’ votes than ‘no’

votes, and at least 8% of the total number of electors must vote ‘yes’ for the question to pass. If

it does not meet both of these criteria, the question fails. For the AMS By-Law Amendment, ⅔ of

the total votes for ‘yes’ and ‘no’ combined must be for ‘yes’, and quorum must be met. Quorum

in this election was 4572 electors.
