THE BASIC RULES OF SAFE FIREARMS ,HANDLING

1. LEARN THE MECHANICAL AND HANDLING CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FIREARMYOU ARE USING. Not aD firearms are the same. The method of carrying and handlingfirearms varies in accordance with the mechanical provisions for avoiding accidental firingand the various proper procedures for loading and unloading. Do not handle any firearmwithout first haVIng thoroughly familiarized yourself with the particular type of flJ8arm youare using and with safe gun handling procedures In ganeraL

2. ALWAYS KEEP THE FIREARM POlmD IN A SAFE DIRECTION.. A safe directionmeans a direction which wili not permit a discharged buDet to strike a person, or to strikean object from which the bullet may ricochet. A safe direction must take into account thefact that a buDet may penetrate I WIn, ceiling, floor, window, etc., Ind stnKe a person ordamage property. Be sure of a s8fe buDet stop behind your target evan when operating the,firearm without ammunition (dry.firingt. Nem let the muzzle of a fnarm point at any partof your body or at another person. this Is particularly inportant when 10lding or unloadinga fIrearm. 3. NEVER PLACE YOUR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER UNLESS YOU ARE READY TOSHOOT. 4. ENSURE fiREARMS ARE UNLOADED WHEN NOT IN USE. Load your fnarm onlywhen you are in the field or on the target range or shooting are8, ready to shoot. Lockfirearms and ammunition securely In rIcks or clblnets when not In use. Store ammunitionsafely, separate from firearms. Store your flrBarms out of sight of visitors and out of '-'ghtand reach of chUdren. The gun owner is responsible for ensuring that chUdren and personsunfamiliar with firearms cannot gain access to firearms or ammunition.

6. BE SURE THE BARREL IS CLEAR OF OBSTRUCTIONS BEFORE SHOOTING. Evena bit of mud, snow, or excess lubricating DB or grelse In the bore may cause the barrel tobulge, or even burst on firing, and can cause Injury to the shooter and bystanders. If youare not sure the barrel Is clear, do not shoot the firearm. Be sure that you are usingammunition of the proper caliber and loading for the gun you are using. 6. BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET BEFORE YOU SHOOT. Don't shoot unless you knowelactly where your bullet is going to stnke. Don't point the firearm at anything you do nolwish to shoot. 8.. WEAR SHOOTING GLASSES AND HEARING PROTECTORS WHEN YOU SHOOT.AD shooters should wear pratectife shooting glasses and some form of hearing protectorswhen shooting or in the company of shooters. Exposure to shooting noise can damagehearing. Adequate vision protection when shooting Is essential. Normal prescriptioneyeglasses and commercial sunglasses do not pro,ide adequate protection.

9. NEVER CLIMB A TREE OR FENCE WITH A LOADED FIREARM. Put the firearm ina secure holster before climbing a fence. Unload the firearm before crnnbing or descendinga tree or jumping o,er a ditch or other obstruction. Never puD or push a loaded firearmtoward yourself or another person. When in doubt, unload your gun I

10. DON'T SHOOT AT A HARD SURFACE, OR AT WATER. Bullets can ricochet offmany surfaces fileerocks or the surface of water and travel in unpredictable dirttctions withdamagingor lethal velocity.

11. NEVER TRANSPORT A LOADED FIREARM. Always unload firearms before placingthem in a vehicle. A suitable carrying case or holster should be used to carry a firearm toand from the shooting areas.

12. DO NOT COISUME AlCOHOUC lEVERAGES WHEN SHOOTING. Handling firearmswhUe under the Influence of drugs. alcohol. medication. or mind altering substances)n a~yform constitutes a criminal disregard for the safety of yourself and others. (

AUTO MAG II SAFETY

As is the case in a8 firearms. the AUTOMAG II pistol must be used with the strictestattention to the basic rules of firearms safety. Pistols are equipped with a manual safetyto provide maximum mechanical security against accidental discharge.

WARNING: REMOVING THE MAGAZINE DOES NOT UNLOAD THE AUTOMAG IIPISTOL THE AUTOMAG II PISTOL WILL fiRE A CHAMBERED ROUND EVEN WITHTHE MAGAZINE REMOVED. NEVER LEAVE A ROUND OF AMMUNITION IN TilECHAMBER OF THE PISTOL LOOK IN THE CHAMBER TO BE SURE IT IS EMPTY.

SAFETY OPERATION

In the safe position. shown in Figure 2. the thumb safety stops the hammer from contactingthe firing pin and also blocks the firing pin. The safety does not stop the hammer fromfalli~p when the trigger is pulled. Figure 1 shows the thumb safety in the off or firepOSItion.

TO LOAD THE PISTOL

WARNING: ODS1RUCTIONS IN THE BARREL CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJUIIY TO TilESIIOOTER Arm DAMAGE TilE PISTOL ENSURE THE BORE IS CLEAN AND DOES NOT.SfiOW EXCESSIVE LUBRICANT DEPOSITS.

WARNING: CARTRIDGES MUST BE FED FROM TIlE MAGAZINE. DO NOT LOAD r

AMMUNITION DlREcn Y INTO THE PISTOL'S CHAMBER.

1. While ensuring the pistol is pointing in a safe direction, place the thumb safety in the"SAFE" position. (When positioned in the "SAFE" position, the RED DOT will NOT be visible,Figure 2.) .,2. Press the magazine latch to the right and release the magazine. Remove the maDazinefrom the pistol.

3. While ensuring the pistol is pointing in a safe direction, draw the slide back forcefullyto extract any round which may have been in the chamber. Visually check to ensure thereis not a round in the chamber; then lower the stide to its forward position.

4. With the pistol stm pointed in a safe direction, lower the hammer by holding the hammerwith thumb and puUing the trigger. Ease the hammer down until it contacts the safety.

WARNING: USE ONLY CLEAN AMMUNITION. AMMUNITION WITH DIRT, LINT.CORROSION.on LUBRICANT DEPOSITS CAN CAUSE THE PISTOL TO MALFUNCTION.

5. Carefully press rounds of ammunition into the magazine. Ensure aUcartridges tie evenlyand ere parallel to the magezine tube. (The magazine for the 6 and 4 % inch barrelAUTOMAG II hold 9 rounds of ammunition. The magazine for the 30/8 inch barrel AUTOMAGII holds 7 rounds of ammunition.)

WARNING: DO NOT FORCE THE MAGAZINE INTO PLACE AS TillS ACTION CANDAMAGE TIlE FEED LIPS AND IMPAIR FEEDING.

6. Insert the magazine into the pistol and ensure the magazine latch locks the magazine inplace. (If the maQazine does not lock in place readilv. remove the magazine and ensure aUcartridges are positioned properlrin the magazine tube. When aU cartridges are positionedproperly, re-insert the magazme.

1. Keep your finger off the trigger and point the pistol in a safe direction. Hold the pistolin your shooting hand.

2. Draw the slide back completely to its rearmost position, then allow the slide to snapforward into the "baltery" (ready to fire) position. These actions move a round ofammunition from the magazine to the chamber and cock the pistol's hammer. (Operating.,the slide in other than a positive manner may cause a misfeed and/or jam in the pistol.)

3. With the pistol pointed at the intended target (and in a safe direction), ensure the thumb"sa.ety is set to the "FIRE" position as shown in Figure 1. The pistol is now ready to fire,

4. With the pistol pointed at the intended target (and in a safe direction), squeeze thetrigger to fire the round in the chamber. When the round has fired, the expended cartridgewl7I be ejected and another round automatically loaded into the chamber from the magazine.If the next round is not to be fired immediately, move the thumb safety to the "SAFE"position until you are ready to fire again.

5. After firing the last shot, the slide stop will hold the slide in the open position.VISUALLY EXAMINE TilE CHAMBER TO ENSURE IT IS EMPTY I

1. With the pistol pointed in a safe direction and your finger off of the trigger, engage thethumb safety.

2. Press the magazine latch to the right to release the magazine and remove the magazinefrom the pistoL

WARNING: DO NOT LOOK INTO TilE CIIAMDER DURING TillS OPERl\lm'f.

3. While ensuring the pistol is pointed in a safe direction and keeping your finger off of thetrigger, pull the slide to its rearmost position and lock it by pushlRg up on the slide stop.

4. If the jammed round was not ejected by pulling back the slide; working ONLY from thechamber area of the slide, use a small wood or plastic rod (sharpened on the working end)to gently remove the cartridge from the chamber. 00 NOT USE A METAL 101ll

5. When the jammed round has been removed, carefully inspect the pistol to ensure a rounddid not lodge in the magazine well of the grip frame.

. 6. Inspect the magazine for proper ammunition loading prior to reinserting into pistol.

TO UNLOAD THE PISTOL

Follow this procedure exactly to unload the pistol.

FINAL ROUND FIRED

1. If the last shot in the magazine has been fired, the slide should ba locked in the openposition.

2. With the pistol pointed in a safa direction, placa the thumb safety in tha -SAFE-position, Figure 2.

3. Press tha magazina latch to tha right to relaase magazine and remove magazine from ~.pistol.

4. Visually axsmine chambar and magazine to ensure they are empty..

5. Pull the slide to its rearmost position which will disangage the slide stop. Slowly raturnslida to its forward position.

6. With the pistol pointed in a safe direction, hold hammer with thumb and pull triggarwhile easing hammer down unt~ it contacts the safety.

ALL ROUNDS HAVE NOT BEEN FIRED

1. With the pistol pointed in a safe direction, place the thumb safety in the -SAFE-position, Figure 2.

2. Press the magazine latch to the right to release magazine and remove magazine frompistol.

3. With the pistol pointed in a safe direction, forcibly pull the slide to its rearmost positionwhich will extract and eject the chambered round from the pistol. DRAWING THE SLIDEBACK SLOWLY MA Y RESULT IN THE ROUND LODGING IN THE MAGAZINE WELL OF THEGRIP FRAME.

4. Visually inspect the chamber and, when you are sure the pistol is empty, lower the sfideto its forward position.

5. With the pistol pointed in a safe direction, hold hammer with thumb and pull triggerwhile easing hammer down until it contacts the safaty.

3. Put safety in flfl (safety Dff) pDsitiDn; then, remove sOde and barrel assembly by pushingit tDwards the front Df the pistol Ensure YDUdon't lose the ejector.CAmDN: . Donot let b8mmerfall without .lide In place. TbiI will ClUlIdImIg8to the "'mmer .trut.

WARNING: TAKE CARE IN RELEASINGTHE TENSION ON SPRING.LDADEDPARTSTO PREVENTPERSONALINJURY OR DAMAGETO PARTS.

4. TD remDve barrel from stide, delress recoil rDd bushing tD claar barrel bushing. Rotatebarrel bushing counterclDckwise 45 and the recoil rod and spring will coma out of the stide.

5. RemDve barrel bushing. Barrel and recoil rod can nDW be remDved from the bDttom and. back Df the stide SD that sUde and barrel can be cleaned.

8. DO NOT DISASSEMBLE FRAMEIGRIP PARTS. If the cDmpDnents within the prip frameneed service for any relSon, return the pistol to the factDry. See SERVICE sectron Df this

.manual for instructiOns.

TO ASSEMBLE THE PISTOL1. InstaD barrel and recoD rod into slide through the bottom and back of slide.

2. Insert barrel bushing so that it is rDtated cDunterclockwise 45°.

3. Insert recDD rDd spring and bushing. With the recoD rod bushing on the recoD spring,cDmpress spring untO recoil rDd bushing is flush with the front Df the slide.

4. Press barrel bushing untOit is fully against stide and rotate clockwise to locked pDsition.

WARNING: DO NOT PUSH SLIDE AND BARREL PAST THE POINT WHERE THE HOLELINES UP FOR SLIDE STOP AND BARREL TANG AS THE TRIGGER RETURN SPRINGWILL BE BfNT AND CAUSE TENSION TO BE LOST.

5. Make sure recoil rod and barrel are parallel in the slide. Ensure ejectDr is properlylocated in frame and that hammer is stiD cocked; then, with safety in fire position, instaOslide assembly and align hole in frame with barrel tang and insert slide stDP halfway.

8. PuOsUde untO sUde stop is aligned with notch and push slide stop in and up untO it isfuRy engaged.

. 7. Relaase slide stop and let sUde move fDrward tD clDsed pDsitiDn tD cDmplete assembly.

I'hough these pistols are made of high-quar..y stainless stee~ a rrght coat of surface rustnay develop over a period of time, especiaOy in areas of high humidity. This is a very thinlurface coating and can be removed with a rust ~reventive solvent and a clean cloth.

Nhne use of only weD-recognized brands of cJmIIII8fCial ammunition is recommended and.!Varranted, some foreign brands utilize corrosive pfiners which necessitate a thorouqh:Ieaning of at least the barrel and sRde with hot water. For cleaning the residue from thISIype of ammunition, use a brass core brush and a stainless steel p1stol cleaning rod withI Jag tip with new cotton flannel ~atches cut to fit the bote snugly. After cleaning, usefirearm lubricants such as Firepower FP.10..:

.SIGHT ADJUSTMENT

nil pistol may be provided with an adjustable tear sight with both elevation and windageIdjustments. The adjustment screw should be turned to move the sight blade in thelirection to which you want the bunet stn'ke point to move. For example, turning the",indage adjustment screw counterclockwise moves the sight blade to the left and bnpactIf the bullet to the left.
