Mission
At Academy of Make Up Arts, it is our mission to provide students
with the most comprehensive shortterm makeup artist training
available with an emphasis on professionalism, artistic fortitude,
technical skills and entrepreneurship.
Method: Our courses are designed to challenge the artist’s
creativity and technical skill. We emphasize the importance of
professionalism: punctuality, cleanliness, research and
preparation. Our courses are handson, giving the artist the
opportunity to exercise their skills and learn by doing, not just
watching. The balance of lectures, demonstrations, and handson
practice moves students from research to directing their own
professional photo shoot.
It is our goal to help students to
put the “artist” in makeup artist!

Grading &AttendanceStudents are monitored to measure development and progress using
performance skills tests and critiques. All tests and critiques are graded
by the 10point scale. These points are then converted to grades and
students must score 70% or greater. Homework must be completed
and presented for grading on the final day of class.
Because of the consolidated nature of our programs, AMUA places
strong importance on attendance. Students are expected to be ontime
and prepared for every class. Students may not be absent more than
(1) time in any course. Students who must be unavoidably absent must
make up their classes and projects by making arrangements with the
instructor prior to the end of each course. Absences remain on
student’s records; directors and producers prior to hiring often request
permanent records.
Students must maintain a GPA of 2.0, a Cgrade in order to remain in
good academic standing. Individual courses will be assessed at the
halfway point of each course. Students must successfully complete
each course in order to move on to the next one. Daily grades are
recorded based on instructor evaluations.
Examinations for each course are in the form of a practical skills test
which requires student to demonstrate proficiency in the skills and
techniques covered in each course. Fees must be paid in full for each
portion of training for which the student requests transcripts. All fees
must be paid in full to receive a diploma or certificate. Student
academic files are maintained at this campus. Satisfactory academic
progress standards are consistently applied to all students.
![Page 19: AMUA Course Catalog 2016](https://reader030.vdocuments.net/reader030/viewer/2022020404/57906d931a28ab6874909ab0/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)

to take the final exam and complete each course. Makeup sessions
can be arranged with the instructor and the director of education.
Students can watch recorded lecture’s DVD’s, attend a makeup class
session for lab and practice in the afternoons of any daily session. The

Probation, Termination& Re-EntryIf for reasons of poor academic progress and/or poor attendance, students
may be placed on probation. Probation is a measure taken by the school
that is designed to help students correct their behavior and/or academic
deficiencies. Probation remedies are meant to help students improve their
performance. It is the school’s responsibility to identify student deficiencies
and take corrective measures to provide students with the best opportunity
to improve their status in school and become successful and prepared to
be professional makeup artists. The average probationary period is three
weeks or six class sessions.
Termination is a measure taken by the school when a student has not
successfully met the standards of the school. Some reasons for
termination include, but are not limited to: not improving performance once
placed on probation, not adhering to the student rules given to students at
orientation, being under the influence, consuming, selling or possessing of
drugs or alcohol on school premises, possession of a weapon on school
premises, demonstrating disrespectful behavior to another student,
administrators or faculty or for failure to meet financial obligations.
Students will be charged to retake any failed courses.
Any student who withdraws or is terminated from a program of study and
returns within 180 days, will be charged the same tuition costs. The
student is bound by the catalog in effect at the time of the original
enrollment. Students that have passed a SAP evaluation point and
withdraw or are terminated from the institution while on probation may not
reenter. These students are eligible to reenroll only after a period of one
year.

Finances
The primary purpose for financial aid is to provide assistance to
students who may not be able to afford to attend classes through their
own means. For that reason, our Financial Aid staff is available for
students and families who would like to discuss their financing options.
Additional assistance and updates can be found on our website at:

Federal Financial Aid
As a private institution, our students are not eligible for Federal (Title

programs. However, we currently offer several options to help with
financing your education.
Private Student Loans
If a student needs more time to pay for school, he or she may want to
apply for a private loan. These loans are generally based on credit
worthiness rather than financial need.
