A one-woman entertainment conglomerate with a heart for giving back, Queen Latifah is a multi-award winning singer, rapper, record producer, businesswoman and actress known for her roles in the big screen adaptation of “Chicago” and the HBO film “Bessie.”
Growing up in Newark, N.J., Queen Latifah learned early about the power of philanthropy; long before her debut album at the age of 19. Sharing her school lunches and collecting pennies to help others ignited a joy of giving that has grown with Queen Latifah’s career success, and today she is actively committed to a number of social causes.
In February, Queen Latifah announced plans to build affordable housing near the community where she grew up, with 20 townhouses and a rental apartment building with 76 units, including 60 market-rate units and 16 affordable units. The $14 million project also will include commercial space to be rented by nonprofit organizations.
Our Special Guest
“In life, and in business, you have to stand for
what you believe in, and sometimes you have
to stand alone. But, what makes you a leader is
having the courage of your convictions.”
“Home shapes you. Make sure you shape it back.”
“ It’s not always easy to do the right thing. But, doing the
right thing makes you strong;
it builds character, it forces
you to make decisions based
upon your beliefs and not
what other people think.”
